Past, Present and Future Progressive(PPFP)
The year is 1981, the strike has shortened our season, but now things are moving foward. This is where we will start our Fantastic Voyage!
Via a random draw, 2 round, snake draft, you will select a major league team that will make up your pitching staff, and a major league team that will make up your hitters.
EXAMPLE-You get first pick, you choose the NY Yankees pitchers, you then will have to wait til last in round 2 to select S.D. padres hitters. Your team will consist of the 1981 Yankees Pitchers and the 1981 Padres Hitters.
That takes care of the PRESENT part. The PAST and FUTURE part will go as follows: You can take 1 player from 10 years prior and 1 player from 10 years ahead.
So, you can chose to grab a pitcher from either the 1971 or 1991 Yankees roster and a hitter from either the 1971 or 1991 Padres Roster. If you select a pitcher from the 1971 Yankees, then you MUST select a hitter from the 1991 Padres, so you have both a Past and a Future player. No clones will be permitted, so you can NOT select a player already in the league.
If you grab a hitter from 1991 Padres, and later he comes up for the Padres as a rookie in lets say 1985, since there are no clones, you can choose to just keep progressing him as he is, or start him over as a rookie.
We will only use the 24 teams in 1981 that had teams in 1971, so the Blue Jays and Mariners will not be selected, and their players will enter the draft along with the other 4 teams worth of pitchers and 4 teams worth of hitters that are not selected.
After we each have our 2 1981 teams selected (PRESENT), and our 1 player from 1971 (PAST), and our 1 player from 1991 (FUTURE), then we will cut down to 21 players.
All players will progress a year at a time.
At this point we will have a 8 round draft to fill the 4 remaining roster spots plus 4 AAA spots, as we will NOT use any computer generated AAA players. This will make up your first season roster!
DH used in both leagues
AAA-Drafted only, no fictitious players
20 Teams-4 Play off teams(Division Winners)
IR-Unlimited for players with no season, but have future seasons.
Future Seasons:
In 1982, you will get any rookies that come up with your teams, using the above teams as example-You would get any 1982 rookie pitcher for the Yankees and any 1982 rookie hitter from the Padres.
If a rookie has seasons with 2 or more teams, he will go to the team in which he had the most plate appearances or Innings pitched.
Future Players(Past and Future) Once we get done with the 1990 season, but before the start of the 1991 season, we will do another Past/Future from the 1976 and 2006 seasons. And after the 2000 season but before the start of the 2001 season, we will go back to 1981 and Ahead to 2011.
DRAFTS-At seasons end we will cut to 25 players or less after rookies. Then draft back up to 25 players from free agents, rookies from Toronto, Seattle and the 4 Undrafted Pitching teams and the 4 Undrafted Hitting teams. Followed by a 4 round AAA draft for a total of 29 player.
All players owned, including AAA guys can be protected, or cut.
You can protect as many or as few of your upcoming rookies as you wish as long as you stay at 25 or under if you wish to participate in the draft.
Draft Order will be reverse order of finish, with a 30 win minimum in season 1 and 2, then a 40 win floor there after. Missing the floor results in slipping to pick 3 in round 1, but back to 1st in other rounds.
Tanking will be monitored, and penalized by moving down in round 1 of the draft, depending on how many times games were thrown, to be decided by comish.
Trades-You can trade any player, you can trade draft picks(as long as you are going to draft that amount) Example- you can trade your 2nd round pick only if you are at 23 player or less in which you need 2 picks, cant trade a pick you dont own.
You can trade future rookie rights to players coming up.
All trades can only be made no more than 2 years ahead, so if its the 1981 season, you can trade rookie right for a player that comes up in 1982 or 1983. Same goes for draft picks.
TEAM NAMES-Team names will be constructed as follows: Your City and Stadium will be your drafted Pitching Teams Home City and Stadium for the season we are in. You will then choose ANY ANIMAL (not used by MLB) as your team name/mascot. Example- N.Y. Newts, playing in Yankee Stadium (II).
Divisions will be constructed by a random alignment in season 1, then we will keep those divisions forever to build rivalries!
As a final note, take note of upcoming Future rookies etc when selecting your teams, I hate to see guys take teams with little future talent who then quit a few seasons in because of this. As an Example-Twins Pitchers-Just know if you select them, you will be drafting pitchers in the draft in round 1 year after year, and thats fine, as long as you are ok with it.
I’s love to see a bunch of committed owners play this league out for many, many seasons and build some great franchises!
