An open letter to white evangelicals: We’re done with you.

By North Carolina Pastor John Pavlovitz

Dear White Evangelicals,

I need to tell you something: People have had it with you. They’re done. They want nothing to do with you any longer, and here’s why: They see your hypocrisy, your inconsistency, your incredibly selective mercy, and your thinly veiled supremacy.

For eight years they watched you relentlessly demonize a Black President; a man faithfully married for 26 years; a doting father and husband without a hint of moral scandal or the slightest whiff of infidelity. They watched you deny his personal faith convictions, argue his birthplace, and assail his character—all without cause or evidence.

They saw you brandish Scriptures to malign him and use the laziest of racial stereotypes in criticizing him. And through it all, White Evangelicals—you never once suggested that God placed him where he was, you never publicly offered prayers for him and his family, you never welcomed him to your Christian Universities, you never gave him the benefit of the doubt in any instance, you never spoke of offering him forgiveness or mercy, your evangelists never publicly thanked God for his leadership, your pastors never took to the pulpit to offer solidarity with him, you never made any effort to affirm his humanity or show the love of Jesus to him in any quantifiable measure.

You violently opposed him at every single turn—without offering a single ounce of the grace you claim as the heart of your faith tradition. You jettisoned Jesus as you dispensed damnation on him.

And yet you give carte blanche to a white Republican man so riddled with depravity, so littered with extramarital affairs, so unapologetically vile, with such a vast resume of moral filth—that the mind boggles.

And the change in you is unmistakable. It has been an astonishing conversion to behold: a being born again.

With him, you suddenly find religion. With him, you’re now willing to offer full absolution. With him, all is forgiven without repentance or admission. With him, you’re suddenly able to see some invisible, deeply buried heart. With him, sin has become unimportant, and compassion no longer a requirement. With him, you see only Providence.

And White Evangelicals, all those people who have had it with you—they see it all clearly. They recognize the toxic source of your inconsistency.

They see that pigmentation and party are your sole deities. They see that you aren’t interested in perpetuating the love of God or emulating the heart of Jesus. They see that you aren’t burdened to love the least, or to be agents of compassion, or to care for your Muslim, gay, African, female, or poor neighbors as yourself.

They see that all you’re really interested in doing is making a God in your own ivory image and demanding that the world bow down to it. They recognize this all about white, Republican Jesus—not dark-skinned Jesus of Nazareth.

And I know you don’t realize it, but you’re digging your own grave these days; the grave of your very faith tradition.

Your willingness to align yourself with cruelty is a costly marriage. Yes, you’ve gained a Supreme Court seat, a few months with the Presidency as a mouthpiece, and the cheap high of temporary power—but you’ve lost a whole lot more.

You’ve lost an audience with millions of wise, decent, good-hearted, faithful people with eyes to see this ugliness. You’ve lost any moral high ground or spiritual authority with a generation. You’ve lost any semblance of Christlikeness. You’ve lost the plot. And most of all you’ve lost your soul.

I know it’s likely you’ll dismiss these words. The fact that you’ve even made your bed with such malevolence, shows how far gone you are and how insulated you are from the reality in front of you. But I had to at least try to reach you. It’s what Jesus would do.
Message to this pastor:

The Love of God is not in you, and you sound more like satan, because he hates the believers.. skin color is not a factor.. he hates them all. forever bashing the church

This guy is also a RACIST
He already responded to you...

and speaking of stupid and unnecessary things to say that covers most of the stuff you post.
You guys, please try to be at peace with one another. You can do this.. we need to try to stay close to the topic
Don't tell me what I need to do. Since I am going to hell anyway I may as well do what I want to do. You can only tell me what you think I need to do. I don't put much credence in what you think I should do.
Man do you ever love to fight. What a waste of space. What happened to you today? Stocks take a dive? Wife leave you? what?? This is you: Don't tell ME what to do!! I am too big for that

You need to grow up

and I don't care WHAT you do. So call me unloving.

maybe you are restless within. You mention hell more than once in a while
If you don't care what I do, why are you telling me what I need to do? You have told me many times I am going to hell...that is the only reason I mention it. I don't even believe in a hell.

I do believe that the Matt guy is a bride of Jesus.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. This guy needs to pay someone to lay on their couch 24/7 for a year straight telling his tale of troubles that it's always the other person, never him, and how can it ever be him when he's always right.

I won't be back. Wasn't ever really here.

You are blocking the author of this post, Jetson21.
I'm with you. I just viewed this "persons" last 2 posts.

The boy has emotional issues but that may be due to a mental illness.

This isn't the platform to...and I don't have the skills to...communicate properly. Regardless, enough time has been invested by enough people to know the outcome of any future dialogue.

Paul has a few things to say on this matter which I posted a few months back. There comes a point when the argument/difference of opinion turns to strife and hatred. Has any communication we've had bore fruit? Why beat down on a guy who has proven himself unable to sustain a rational conversation? Where is the glory and honor to God in that? The time to move on has already passed. Forgive me for waiting this long.

Anyways...I'm late for work. SEE YA!

No hatred. I have said that but this is my response to people shoving religion down my and other’s throats.
I get the part of mental illness. That’s what Trump says about all of his critics.

Matt definitely hates me. I can’t work up a lather about a guy like that.
Or the other 2.
Nothing of anything said by the 3 stooges bothers me.
7/5/2022 7:54 AM
Matt strikes me as more then a friend of Jesus.
I think he has something akin to being in love.
Im not saying it should be against the law.
I think a lot of proud boys and trumpers in general have that feeling for the exalted Trump.

I do believe that Jesus was probably a gay man. He is surrounded by men who go wherever he goes.
He does not have a wife or significant other and in those days rabbis we’re supposed to be married.
This is another way that Jesus was a rebel.

I forget which gospel this is from but there is an account where Jesus is spreading oil on a young guy still not an adult at something like midnight in his tent.

There is voices outside and the kid runs out covered only in a flimsy cloth which falls off and he runs away nekkid as a jay bird.

It is an odd story.

Matthew 15:25-28

I will get to this one.
It is so interesting to me. Whether this happened or did not happen it shows the background of much of the jewish community and their worry of assimilation and need to have a messiah that was for them - exclusively.

By the way, messiah was a construct that only started in the jewish community in the 150 years prior to Jesus. The messiah was to be an invincible military commander - not superman but an ordinary man with such leadership that he would free them from their servitude and oppression.

The idea of a man/god had its roots in the roman/greek religions.
It came about partly to console and to give a reason for Jesus’ failure to liberate the jews by his cult of followers. He was certainly not a leader of all of the jews. He was followed by his group who called him rabbi and did not think he was a deity until sometime after he died and only a few people allegedly were witness to his revival.

The other part in the development of the myth was to give the romans what they wanted - a new god/man which had always been their tradition.
At first they balked because of the rules of kosher and a few others. They were happy when Paul told them they did not have to follow it.

Jesus filled their religious void as the first gods were no longer being followed and they needed something new.

Tomorrow i’ll write about that passage from Matthew.

BTW - the gospels are out of order Almost every scholar believes that Mark was the first written about 30 years after the death of Jesus and Matthew was second.
If this is an example of hate to the 3 you can say it till the cows come home.
I will still express my opinion while you guys say that I and the others unencumbered by fear of an imaginary hell.

Final Words

Mark and Matthew - My God, my God - Why have you forsaken me.

Luke gospel number 3 : in a loud voice ( rather difficult because he could hardly breathe ) Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. Just before that, Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.

John - last gospel and written about 25 years after Mark. He says that he thirsts..he is given a beverage.
Then he says - It is finished. Then he bows his head and dies.

3 very different sets of words at the end.

I will answer the questions:
  1. It is finished MEANS.. The debt for the sin of mankind has been paid in FULL (with his shed blood)
  2. He reconciled Man to God aka redeemed us.. 'US' meaning all who will believe on him as per John 3:16

I answered the question several posts ago.

As for your answers :

1. Big Whoop. Listen to Patty Smith.
2. You can believe in Jesus. If i believe in anything I’ll believe in God. Unlike you my concept of God if God exists is a being that does not have the terrible defects of human nature like revenge and vanity and threats and anger and mass murder and trickster or hating those who lack of religion or favoring one religion over another.

Those things describe a weak and immature and craven human being. Certainly not the creator of the Universe.

Lets say that I have a considerably higher opinion of God then you have and I am not afraid.

BTW - If there is a God -Being I would not be surprised if it lived outside of our universe.

I thought this thread could grow into something. I was wrong.

I am done with this .. in 15 years, I have yet to see anyone come to a saving faith on chat media, especially difficult when in a room full of know it alls

It is easier to load marbles with a pitchfork. So I quit.. at least here.

I understand - you can say whatever you want about non believers going to hell but when someone makes comments on stuff actually in your bible you get terrified and quit.
I understand that you had to run from the kitchen.

So why do you perpetuate the argument by condemning others in the name of advancing your "saving faith" here, on "chat media?"

It makes absolutely zero sense to come here and try and "prove" your faith by telling the majority of us that we're doomed to some inescapable hell if we don't fall in line with YOUR version of the Bible or the the words of Christ.

Before you "quit.. at least here" let me say this...

It seems even you have come to the conclusion that you shouldn't have STARTED in the first place.
