What determines the “staying” or “on the fence” rating for a top 60 Freshman in the NBA draft rankings?

My understanding is that within each class, there are certain ranges for where their classifications change. So a soph at #25 is going to be “on the fence” but a junior at #25 will be “likely going.” Freshmen are oriented with very high baselines, in other words they need to be projected very high to change classification. I *think* a freshman at #25 is still likely staying, though I’m not positive about that. I don’t know exactly where those changes are for freshmen; they appear high on the big board pretty infrequently. I think I’ve noticed one at “on the fence”, and I want to say he was projected as a lottery pick, but don’t quote me on that, it was a while ago.

its the same cutoffs as the other stuff plus one extra. at 28 you go from staying to likely staying - but note that freshman can leave despite being ranked staying. at least on the high end of it. not 100% sure how that works. anyway at 18 it goes to on the fence, and i kinda forget the other cutoff. freshman are almost never top 20, it might be 8, im not sure... if your freshman is that high you should not be allowing them to be so!

0 out their practice minutes so they don't develop. Obvious drawback here is they are less good.

I think I might load up on their yellows and than if they stay. Load back on the blacks or better next season.

Just to share my experience last season: I had a soph big last who started the season at 87 rank and I think was "likely staying". He did not drop, despite not improving in any categories (I had the practice settings on 7 for most ratings - so he was just maintaining). Anyhow, after a few games were he just hovered around 87, 88 I finally put 0 practice minutes in everything except study hall and FT. He fairly quickly started to drop, and ended the season at 125 and was "likely staying" the whole time. In the end, he did not declare, so he'll be back. He only lost 1 point on his defense rating as well despite the lack of practice.

When does the decision get made? Do you find out before 2nd round of recruiting? before renewal deadline?

Decision is made immediately after the national championship game.
