I mean a stud player 92 overall dropped to 85 and he is just 30 or 31 years old. I wonder if that is why the previous owner did not want the team back. He would have to deal with the declined ratings and the excessive payroll to trim down :)

I was thinking that. The previous owner had a 5 million budgeted for training and medical. The payroll without arb contracts (35 million) is already 119. So if I don't trim the payroll to have more money for training it will be the same again after this season. The prime players will take another huge hit on the ratings.
Bingo! That's it. You have to find a way to allocate more money to training and med.

Thanks for helping. I think I am finally learning something :)

So obviously I can get the max I can now (15 million) as it is my first season with the world. The previous owner had 5 million so it would be better for me to take the default budget beginning so I can max it to the 15 million for training and medical. I know this will not bring back any rating points, but it should help for anymore huge dips or drops this season.

You've got it. Everyone has their own ways to run their team but the general consensus is to get training up to 20 million as quickly as possible.

Medical is a whole nother debate.

Thanks I will get it to 15 this season and will max it next season. One of the thing that stinks is with the 120 million payroll(20 more with arb) coaches, 15 million training 10 million medical (hold my breath this season) and 6 million prospects that leaves me with almost nothing for scouting. I will have to bite the bullet this season in the draft(1st pick is near 30). I can not lower my payroll as it will not let me set my budgets until the expected payroll is met.

Thank goodness your pick is late. If you were picking top 5 that would really suck. With 30 you'd only end up with a top end reliever or 3 tool positional player at best. May as well go for a lotto pick and see what happens.

Small sample size in that he’s still had less than 150 innings, or does this guy actually suck somehow?

I can’t speak for previous owners, but I keep both his target and max pitch count at 10. And I have a very good defense. (Admittedly a small sample size on my team, but his previous owner was no HBD dummy.)

He can only pitch a maximum 40 innings a season, so he's always going to have a small sample size. And if he gives up more than two HRs a season, or has two blowup appearances, his stats will be trashed. I think you're using him exactly the only way you should.

I would up his pitch count to 20.

When a guy is healed from a slight injury, do you consider him good as new, or would something like (shoulder, sore) worry you about pitching him as soon as he’s recovered?

I don't think they have something that advanced in their code. I don't worry about it. Once they are off the DL, I pitch them as soon as I can.

Same.

Disagree, strongly. It's not a performance thing-- their performance is normal-- but I feel very strongly, with at least 12-20 episodes, that players that get a slight injury are at modestly greater risk of major injury for some short period of time. It's several HBD days, no more. But it's happened to me way too often to be a coincidence. If I can afford to rest them for a few more days after health, I will.

So what is the number that has been successful when trying to re-sign departing free agents? I want to say it was 20% higher than their former contract? Or am I making this up.
