I don't really get the argument. Real life experience in anything means Jack **** here, and Jack left town. I think just by being here you can consider yourself a stat nerd.

Anyway thinking of ditching this league. Besides, even if I play, The Texas A&M/Texas team is too sweet. Durant, Deandre, and Middleton just to name a few. Its a fair squad too, no complaining there. Not always about winning but with the added baggage this league is accumulating, my interest is fading.

no no - we've had a raft of new guys come on board in the last year and I am sure that they would tell you that the veteran community has been generous and encouraging - so that's what's not a thing at all

as for standing out you certainly do - as the worst case of Dunning-Kruger Syndrome we've seen here in maybe 5 years
I'm not claiming that I know how to win here, so how is it Dunning-Kruger Syndrome?

I do claim that I know a lot more than you and asha-hole about everything there is to know about basketball. First off, being an official for 17 years I'd kill you both on the playing rules. Secondly, have either of you guys ever coached, or even played at a decent level?

I would bet that you both are just number crunching geeks who can barely dribble the ball.

You did claim that you knew how to win here though. When I told you that you should read a few forum posts to learn how to play this game, you literally said "I already know how to win here."

That's a direct quote.

You are also claiming to be better at something without having any idea how good the other person is. How do you know that someone else hasn't played, coached, and reffed at a higher level than you?
I'll take my chances against those 2 numbers crunching geeks. They are like Jonah Hill's character in MONEYBALL.
What does being a number crunching geek have to do with basketball ability?
There's not many good athletes who are also number crunching geeks, or vice versa. If you're a good athlete as a kid, the stats usually don't interest you much. If you're a bad athlete, but really like sports, many times you find another way to be involved, like poring into the stats.

What baggage?

This forum has nothing to do with when the league starts up. But I se you pulled your team. How do you do that? I don't see anything there for exiting a league.

Yeah, I'm a stat nerd now because I am turning 65 soon and my playing days are long over. I have a-fib and would probably die with a massive heart attack if I started running up and down the court again. I had to quit officiating basketball 10 years ago because of the a-fib.

This is nonsense. Just using two obvious examples: benhoidal and I are two of the nerdiest most number centric folks on this whole site and we were both college athletes.

First of all, the statement was obvious hyperbole I used in a feud with two guys who are trolling this thread. It's not meant to be taken as a statement of 100% fact. It's a comedic insult.

Were you guys college basketball players, or did you play some other college sport(s)?

Okay, looks like Houston and the UCONN/UMASS combo are available after PirateSteve and this guy backed out.

This league will be played, even if I have to buy up all the rest of the teams myself and just put them on autopilot.

Ok, after going through all 14 pages and reading all the comments I decided I still want to enter a team. Next to baseball, basketball is my favorite team sport. Growing up I remember seeing a freshman basketball player named Lew Alcindor play at UCLA. Since then I have always been a abruin fan. Since I can’t use UCLA I’d like to enter their cross town rivals USC and use a combo team from San Diego State.

Lew Alcindor didn't play freshmen year.

Also, I was on campus when UCLA won their last championship.

This is why I should get UCLA.

I played soccer at a division 3 school and am not particularly a number cruncher (nor was I all that good - I scored a goal off the bench one time) how does that factor in?

I watched the UCLA vs Houston game that was played in the Astrodome on television so I should get UCLA and Houston.

You're in!

Alcindor as a freshman played on the UCLA freshman team as they could not play varsity as a freshman then. The freshman team played the varsity once and beat them by 30 points.

Hope you found the 14 pages entertaining. I do my best!
