$ 19 million?

Now there's a challenge for Farley.

I was granted the honor of choosing jonstephen’s 1st dagger team. In looking at his ’64 Yankee team, I see he has a good defense, some decent power, 2-3 solid SP’s and a plethora of RP’s. Not many weaknesses to start. My goal was to 1) give him zero additional pitching, 2) avoid giving him a 3B, SS, or cheap usable OF, and 3) find expensive bench players with little talent.

Jonstephens, I present to you the 1944 Boston Braves led by OF Tommy Holmes and SP Jim Tobin. This team has a well paid bench, virtually no pitching, and only Holmes who comes in at $7M, a little more than Mantle. Should be fun finding replacements for all those great Yankee players!

Beallandwell? No, instead suffer while you try to fetch good out the evil of the 1924 Boston Braves.
You have a serviceable catcher with Roseboro, so the Braves offer only two decent hitters – both at
catcher and way above a reasonable backup budget. The cheapest bench hitters will still set you back
close to 1m each.
There might be ONE pitcher worth their salary, but most are mop ups at best.
I am really eager to see which 6 players from this dumpster fire will absorb your salary cap without
adding to the win column. Please, join me in creating a norm where people post to celebrate whenever their gifted players help conjure wins. Such a norm will distract your competitors while you enjoy a burst of productivity in your workplace.

I am sitemailing each next owner as they come up though I can't always be here.

I can put out a list each round if wanted.

We've always kept it as a surprise but either way is okay.

i could be wrong but my recollection is that it was always out in the open

Here's a link to the last time we did this.

https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/Posts.aspx?topicID=519797&TopicsTimeframe=0&TopicsPage=0

In the past I've sitemailed everyone.

However, that is a pain, and it also can lead to errors as I have so many sitemails to send so

I posted a table on page one of this thread showing everyone their assignment each round.

Please ask if it's confusing to you.

That chart shows that I throw the 2nd dagger at.......................myself ????????

yours was all messed up. Sorry Landry - corrected but better go look again cause it's all different.
8/22/2022 12:29 PM
Landry, I assume it was a copy-paste issue because it duplicates most of jpeterso. Based on the others in your division, I suspect it will end up this:

1. Landry
2. jpeterso
3. jwillis
d1 kentol
d2 fatguy

Waiting to see what the whalers do to me. I think their primary experience is on other sorts of beasts.
8/22/2022 12:33 PM
correct ermo - thanks.
8/22/2022 12:35 PM
Damn, I shouldnt have said anything............LOL
8/22/2022 12:42 PM
By the way, we have been going fast, but expect a delay when we switch from rounds 2 and 3.

Kentol gets screwed twice in a row, so we expect Landry to take some time analyzing the first screw pick for kentol before he makes the second screw pick.
8/22/2022 12:50 PM
I dont screw kentol in round 3......... I screw jwillis
8/22/2022 1:04 PM
Yes - it's fatguy that has the toughest spot. We need to be patient if he takes some time.

I tried to think how my chart would be least confusing, and I think the only one I confused was myself.

My neighbor ermocito seems to think that I'm a one trick pony. It is true that I am fairly new to SIM baseball, but I am 59 and a lifetime baseball fan.

His first round selection was the 64 White Sox. Great pitching, offense a bit lacking other than third and short.

So to you kind sir I gift the 74 Padres. Top hitter Derrell Thomas, 3.9 million with a D+ range and sub .250 batting average and a pitching staff with no one below 1.42 WHIP. With a team payroll barely cracking 50 million, they are yours to enjoy.

Did you know?

In 1973 during the season, there was an agreement in place and approval from MLB to move the Padres to Washington, DC. The Padres owner C. Arnholt Smith was in deep trouble with the IRS and had agreed to sell the team to Joe Danzansky a DC business man for $12 million. It was such a "done deal" that Danzansky was given authority to approve all transactions for the Padres the second half of the 1973 season. Better yet, Topps even produced 15 player baseball cards for the 1974 season with players for the yet to be named Washington baseball team.

At the end of the day the deal fell through, obviously. The City of San Diego threatened to sue Arnholt Smith for $80 million for breaking the stadium lease and he backed out of the sale to Danzansky. In the eleventh hour on a whim, Billionaire Ray Kroc decided he wanted to buy a baseball team and would keep it in San Diego. As they say, that is the rest of the story.

Big Mac anyone?
