The game was played at RFK stadium in DC about 10 years after the Senators bolted for Texas. RFK was designed for football and baseball and the lower deck was on a track that could rotate around the field to enhance the configuration for either sport. At the time only the Redskins were using the field so they did not shift it to the baseball configuration. As a result left field fence was only about 250 feet down the line. Talk about a short porch but still, Appling was 75 years old.
