First time rebuild - need advice Topic

Ok so I’ve always had a veteran team as veteran players are always available in my world. I’ve decided to do a full scale rebuild. I brought up all my top prospects. None of them are gonna light the world on fire (most 71-79 potential) I increased my coaching budget and hired great coaches with 90+ Skills in their respective fields. I also will have them all starting and playing a lot. I understand coaching and playing time are key for young players. They range from 21 to 25. I’m curious for advice from others and hints and tips others have found to be successful during a rebuild?

Yep, have a plan and stick to it. That may also mean looking ahead to figure out when you'll be ready to switch modes, from draft and develop to acquiring the finishing pieces.

Thank you all for your help. I am at the stage where I have promoted my top prospects to the ML roster. I am looking more for advice on how to help develop them the most successful way possible. What ways has anyone found to help support the development of young players at the ML level?

Play them as much as possible. Plate appearances for position players and games played for pitchers. If you aren’t trying to win don’t worry too much about it their health dips below 100. If you have 20 million Medical (which I would) I’d be trying to injure my guys.

Yep my earlier comment was based on the fact that you've already got a young team in place. See how they progress, stick with it, don't do anything silly. One of the dumbest things I've ever witnessed was an owner who was rebuilding and then suddenly traded his best prospect, a top-three draft pick, for two over-30 players who were former all-stars with big contracts. I asked why in trade chat and he basically said "I'm tired of losing." The player went on to win three WS with his new team; the owner left the league two seasons later.

Awesome thank you both. Next year almost 50million comes of the books so I will max out my medical budget and decide on either college or high school scouting and hopefully propel this rebuild in the right direction.

To echo this point, set your best pitching prospects to lower pitch counts, that way they get more games. You can also lower your player rest settings to get more guys in the game.

Ok This really gets my attention as a new owner. So you get the best coaches you can and promote your top prospects to the ML level. Play them as often as you can in spring training and ML level to gain more ratings? My question is(as a new owner of course) if they get injured would that not hurt the ratings more than them getting the playing time? If you promote them at a very young age would that not start the clock on the arb years and make them free agents very early? Forgive me for being "dumb" about this but I am learning as well and this really sparks my interest as I am getting ready to take a team that is primed and ready for a rebuild from bottom up immediately.

They can get injured at any level, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't play them as much as possible. But you're right, the earlier that you promote them to the ML level and start their clock, the earlier that they will go through arb and then become free agents. I very rarely promote players to the majors any earlier than after at least 2 or3 professional seasons. I will get them up to AAA as soon as I can, though, as long as they will still start.
