Ok, I don't really have a dog in this fight, and I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. But there is a BLATANTLY obvious answer to your question, especially since you appear to have accidentally phrased it incorrectly.

She was elected. Mussolini didn't do that before rising to power.
Hitler was appointed legally. Was Hitler not a fascist?

"Being elected" isn't a policy position. If Mussolini ran and won, would he be less of a fascist?

That really depends on whether he still set himself up as a military dictator after he got into office...

a lot of it is semantics

and who doesn't love arguing about the meaning of words using fungible tokens known as words

the way i see it, fascism is everyone strives for the state

communism is everyone strives for the people

but it's all words because they can both look the same in implementation

as can every other system of government

all it takes is lawyers philosophers educators systems and good old human nature

So, for example, if you're the President of Brazil, and you got elected legally, it's a bit fashy to openly threaten to remain in power if you lose the next election because you have the military on your side, right?

Just a hypothetical
9/30/2022 9:29 PM
As a hypothetical? I'd need more information. There are plenty of military dictators that I wouldn't label as fascist. If we're talking about the real world then I'd say sure, it's more than a little bit fascist. Brazil's rapidly working on mounting a challenge to Hungary as the most fascist government going...

None of which has anything to do with Meloni. Nothing in her career or rhetoric has ever suggested that she'll be anything but democratic. Again, I'm not a fan of her politics. Far-right populist/nationalists are pretty much 180º from me on the political spectrum (being, generally, in favor of government intervention in economic activity and socially conservative). I just think calling anyone who has always been supportive of democratic norms a fascist is meaningless left-wing rhetoric that downplays the far greater threat posed by actual fascists (like Orban).

Liberals have famously never understated the risk that fascists pose to democracy

How's Brazil's democracy doing?
Well, they are going to have an election, so we'll soon see. Speaking of South American elections and democracy....How did that last one in Venezuela go?

Venezuela obviously isn't a legitimate democracy, Doug.

As for dahs, OK, I'll acknowledge that I'm not super educated on Merloni's specific views on democracy, although from what I know about the party she belongs to, there's more than a little smoke. I will say that it's difficult to access how these leaders *genuinely* feel about democracy when they win legitimately; the test comes when you lose legitimately, and whether you will actually concede. I guess we'll have to see.

What time is pronoun practice?

He, him, ciscender straight. Or is it I'm cisgender straight, He, oh fuddles...

It's actually pretty simple. If someone nicely asks you to use their preferred pronouns, you do it

99% of ppl go by he/she/they
10/2/2022 2:21 PM
Thanks so much
10/2/2022 2:25 PM
No problem, buddy

Actually not that complicated despite the right's attempts to be as intentionally dumb about the issue as possible
