About the Yankees Topic

About the Yankees:

The team is nowhere near the league that Houston is in, and probably isn't as good as Cleveland whom they squeaked past in the playoffs.

Here is how it looks to me:

1. Don't rehire Brian Cashman as GM. His contract is up, Fully half of the teams in the major leagues, only one of them with a higher budget than the Yankees, have played in the World Series since 2009, the last time the Yankees did. That is a failure. Maybe Derek Jeter as GM.

2. Fire the f... out of Aaron Boone. Terrible manager. Hire as our new manager Don Mattingly, the most beloved Yankee of the past 50 years, who just left Miami, and is free to be hired.

3. We need one more starting pitcher. Spend what it takes to get a great one. Frankie Montas and Domingo Germain aren't scaring anyone at the back end of the rotation. Get another top starter and make those two compete for the fifth spot. And the money to spend on a starter will come from:

4. Don't re-sign Aaron Judge. Though frankly I think he has signaled that he is leaving anyway. He had a historic season. But he is missing that thing, that intensity to win that everybody on the late 90s team had. He turned down $213 million dollars to play for the New York Yankees. Save the money and use it to rebuild a team with depth.

5. Catcher is set with two very good players. A huge advance over past seasons suffering through Gary Sanchez.

6. Keep Rizzo. He is a real Yankee. First base is set.

7. Trade Gleyber Torres. I can't stand watching the laziest player in the majors anymore. He'll never be worth more in a trade than he is now. Put DJ LeMahieu at second provisionally, and train Anthony Volpe to play second base.

8. Peraza at short, and stop jerking the kid around .

9. Donaldson is a great defensive third baseman, but useless offensively Release him, eat the huge contract, which letting Judge go helps you do. Put IKF at third for now, since he at least makes contact and was the Gold Glove winner at third base just two years ago. Never play IKF at shortstop again, even if Jesus comes back and says to. Please. But play him at third until you find an upgrade.

10. Benintendi as your leadoff hitter in left, followed in the lineup by DJ, then Rizzo, then Stanton as the DH. I am not 100% convinced by Bader, but he deserves to be the starting centerfielder for the New York Yankees on opening day, and the position should be his unless he fails at it. I love Aaron Hicks, my favorite player for years, but he's done, much as it pains me to say so. See if you can trade him. If not, release him. I'll miss him, but he can't hit anymore. Cabrera in right field for now, but he would be better as a fourth outfielder. Look for a trade.

Make Holmes the closer when he is healthy. Shore up the bullpen, but with Loisiga, King, and Wendy Peralta, there is a good basis for relief.

11. Settle on a batting order. Stop moving people around. Have two good contact hitters at the top of the lineup. Bat power hitters 3,4 and 5.

12. Have starters pitch at least 6 frickin' innings, 7 when they're going well. This will keep the bullpen healthier later in the season.

13. NEVER TRY TO INSPIRE A YANKEES TEAM EVER AGAIN BY SHOWING THEM VIDEO OF THE 2004 RED SOX COMEBACK AGAINST US FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND BABE RUTH! What the f... were they thinking?

That's my plan. What is Hal Steinbrenner's?

I want a salary cap, and a real salary floor, at least a big chunk of what the cap is, not $35M when there is a $150M cap. Hello, Pittsburgh and Miami. Some serious revenue sharing. The TV money is significant. All teams must compete. Tanking needs to go.

They could try to do something to revive free agency. Even the Winter Meetings have become a snoozefest...

Teams average $60M from the national TV package, local average package an additional $40M. That's $100M without selling a single ticket.

Bill DeWitt Jr (*******) complains that the franchise doesn't create enough revenue. His franchise is worth 10x what he paid for it, is a billionaire because of it. He makes a mint from Ballpark Village. He can afford to spend in the top 20% of payrolls...make me an offer, I will sign for more years at less pay...really!

Yes. It did. To motivate the players, down 3-0 against Houston, they showed highlights of the Yankees collapsing against Boston in 2004, the only time a team overcame a 3-0 deficit. Ugh.

Thanks. I will try to be more active here. Just been working and working.

Aaron Judge has become a much better ballplayer. Would I pay him $30M a year? No. Why not? He's the same size as John Matuszak. He will be 31 next April. Even Albert Pujols couldn't come close to replicating what he did his first 10 seasons, and neither will Judge. I could see the Giants giving him a hefty 5 or 6 year deal, but nothing near 10 years. That's crazy...

Yep. That is how I feel. Tampa could build an entire pitching rotation for that money.

I agree..Boone should be out of there. Not so sure bout Cashman. After all the Yankees have not had a losing record since 1992. How many other teams can say that. That being said, I wouldn't be too upset if Cashman was not re-signed. There will never be a salary cap in MLB. The players would never allow it. I think the players might go for a payroll floor that every team needs to spend on players. As far as Judge, I'm fine either way. If he signs, great, if he doesn't that's okay too (as long as he does not sign with the Red Sux or Dodgers). I don't care if they trade Donaldson and have to pay a lot of his salary. It ain't my money and the Yankees can afford it.

I understand this argument. And it has some merit. But...how many teams with the Yankees' budget over this period WOULD have had a losing record or failed to make the playoffs nearly all the time?

I can see that side of the argument too. With their budget and players it would be hard to have a losing record often. But please get rid of Boone!

Couldn't agree more...get rid of Aaron Boone, bring Donnie Baseball home!
