?Red October baby!

But the above article really is dishearting.

The Phils had two American born blacks play for them this year. Roman Quinn who failed to impress for the 4th or 5 th time and was released, and AAA slugger Darick Hall who supplied some much needed power when Bryce was on IR.

Much of that is to do with the NFL and NBA being sports that African Americans prefer to follow, due to the nonstop advertising of those sports. They are talked about 24/7 by outlets like ESPN. Even during their off-season they have some event in their sport to talk about...kids in the city don't play baseball like they did years ago. Baseball has lost its luster in that respect...

Disheartening?

Unless they're being omitted for racial bias, why is this news worthy? I've seen this story floating around but no claims that either club has does this intentionally for hateful reasons. This appears to be another example of the media looking to create an issue where none exists, and they know some people will swollow the bait, hook, line and sinker.

Should we go back and analyze how many Latin-born players are in the NBA Finals each year?

Hopefully, one day we will stop looking at/for skin color, stop letting the media bait us into their revenue-generating narrative(s) of exclusion, division and hate, and we'll be heartened to watch a champioship in which the best teams go toe to toe with their best players.

Grew up watching Banks, Aaron, Stargell, Bonds, Dick Allen, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins. I just think we are missing something.
Kids want to be like the NBA billionaire club. They aren't playing ball in the streets...they are playing hoops.

There is no quick path to the big payday in baseball. NBA and NFL are more appealing to the “I want it now” generation.

Take it elsewhere...we don't need the pot stirred. Go back to the pit

Agreed. Thread was meant to be an observation on the changing nature of the American ball player. It was not meant to be political and opinions expressing political viewpoints are not wanted.
