I'll be in tonight.

I'm finished with my final build but am wiped out. Looks like there's still 3 other people not in, so I'll actually make them in WIS & join the specific leagues throughout the day Tuesday.

In. I'm less happy now than I was when I started working on the squads despite getting every little drop of value I could out of my teams, improving their overall numbers marginally. I did 43 full builds after the initial draft (which I was doing a build while drafting and making adjustments, though I started over after round 8 or 9, I think). There was one pitfall I just couldn't get around, but I think overall my teams average out at about 12% stronger than Season 8's five-team average. I'll post numbers and analysis later for anybody who cares.

43 builds is CRAZY! ash. Do you player seasons have that much variability? I don't recall a team I've drafted where there were realistically more than 10 or so builds.

Right. I ended up doing 4 and was thinking "wow, I am a maniac for doing this many."

I did 50+ last time.

Yes and no about variability… it’s more about the possible combinations and how good the overall effort looks versus the individual teams. Like in one build I had four really, really good teams but one complete trash team… And then I’d make variations on that trying to make the trash team better while not killing the other teams… while keeping reasonable thresholds on all of them.

Or maybe I try a dominant two team build, but again trying to make the other three as good as possible. Maybe all five are playoff teams with two real contenders, but one team has absurdly more fouls or turnovers. Then I start looking at how much bang for the buck I’m getting… am I getting the most minutes out of my best reserves with the current layout? If I only have 1k minutes available for a backup big, it doesn’t make sense to put my highest value reserve on that team when he could play 1800 on this other one…

Sometimes I just want to see if I can do something. Can I make it so that each of the five teams have a weighted 55+ efg while maintaining certain benchmarks in other areas? Yes, I can, but how does this configuration compare to the best ones overall in what I’m attempting to accomplish?

it’s extreme but honestly it’s the most fun part of savage for me. It’s not even close. I loathe the draft process and how ugly people become during it, and once the season begins, there’s honestly only so much you can do with the limited coaching options, so if I can eke out an extra three wins by making my lineups the best it can be without holding everyone up, I’m going to do that, because at the end of the day, every point matters. For some people, this comes easy and is intuitive and they don't put in as much effort as others. I'm not that gifted, so I'm only competitive by putting in time and effort.

It’s also my last Savage, at least for a while, so I really want to make it count.

I getcha ash. They way I track and build teams, I'm probably doing 50 micro builds during the draft until I'm done.

I try to keep it easy for myself, rank the top 7 or so seasons from each player then plop the top 5 in order, to make first passes at teams 1-5. Then I start tinkering to fill holes, even things out a bit, and optimize minutes. Pick a team where Beal might cede the floor to Reggie, for example, or find room for a studly low minute Horford season.

It's one build the whole way through - except when I have a tough choice to make or am trying a big change, in which case I draft out copies of each of the options and just delete the one which looks worse in comparison.

My method is to build backcourts and frontcourts separately and then try to match it up the best possible, and make adjustments if needed.

This year for Christmas I am going to ask Santa for an ash-o-matic. You put in what you want the focus to be on and the ash-o-matic will build your teams for you.

At the other end of the spectrum, someone in one of the banned leagues said he built his team in seven minutes.

Everything weighted to 19,680 minute (bold is higher stat of the 2 years)

Savage 9 5TA: 108.0% usg, 55.2% efg, 63% ast, 18.2% stocks, 13.5% tov, 405 3pm, 73.6 def, 132.8% crb, 14.4% fouled, 59.6% ts, 18.4 pf48

Savage 8 5TA: 104.3% usg, 54.1% efg, 63.3% ast, 18.1% stocks, 12.8% tov, 512 3pm, 73.2 def, 133.9% crb, 12.6% fouled, 58.9% ts, 18.2 pf48

Marginally higher in efg% & fouled% (good) & tov% (bad), much lower in 3pm (bad), and very close to the same in everything else. My overall average salary per minute is $52 more ($2,689.13 vs $2,637.3), and when accounting for how much usage inflates the salary cost, it's $2,099.11 vs $2,074.6 in favor of this year. While that bodes extremely well, I would have liked more threes last year, and I'm averaging 107 less this year than last, and threes are extremely undervalued in the salary structure, so... Yeah.

Still, when my worst team is 111.8% usg, 55.0% efg, 67.6% ast, 20.0% stocks, 13.6% tov, 453 3pm, 72.7 def, 133.7% crb, 14.5% fouled & 19.99 pf48, I have to feel decent going in.

Dang I'd been lazing around knowing I had time because not all teams were in, but suddenly they're in. I'll begin my "eval" project later today. It should be entertaining at least.

Entertaining is much better than attempts at accuracy imo

Like that ash. I hadn't totaled them before - here's what I got: 254 3's (Dr J), 114.9 usage, 59.07 TS% - eFG is 54.8, 132.8 crb, 70.6 ast%, 21.7 stocks, 13.06 tov%, 18.1 fp48, 80.4 def rating.

I think it's a better shooting team than last year, little bit better overall D. More To's, more assists and usage. Less 3's.

Excited to see the division draw.
