Go ahead and stop yourself with the redshirt senior talk. I feel you and I hear you. You’re absolutely right that’s it’s a huge advantage and probably as much as the other (or at least it’s more for a one season sample size bc there’s recruiting $). I’ve seen a lot of people want to take it away. But also It’s a useful tool I’ve used several times to try to balance my classes out and “go in on” a certain season.
I’ve Redshirted freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and don’t want that taken away just because others don’t like knowing I could potentially have 1 less opening to fill than the amount of openings I show. It’s hard af to fill out a full, deep roster of 12 elite players at D1 unless your prestige is B+ or higher. So This would only help the big guys if it were taken, not the little guy. I do wonder though if only 6 people knew about it if they’d get their records scrubbed.
But what are you going to do? Take away their recruiting money when period 2 starts, when you apply the redshirt at the end of the season? A lot of people already spend their money in period 1 (and everyone should, except for on late targets of course). So you can’t really take it. AP, sure, but I think that already goes down in period 2, as it shows you have less openings. Can’t remember, I’ve been in rebuild mode with 2 different teams the last several years so I haven’t had a chance to use redshirts the last several seasons, rosters are already too thin and filled with walk ons.
and please don’t make it a rule you have to apply the redshirt beginning of the season. For those that don’t know, if you’re going to apply a redshirt and they’re going to have a work ethic hit (you can find out by trying it, non freshmen typically do), you should wait to apply the redshirt until all practices are done.
going to be annoyed if RSing upperclassmen gets taken away. We might just want to spread awareness that it can be done. I think that’s what people are upset about with the other thing anyway
