The 2023 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot:

I imagine Manny and Arod are out because of steroids but maybe somebody like Sheffield, Rolen, Rollins, Andruw Jones or Beltran may have a shot.

I think Rolen is probable the only one who makes it. If I was voting I’d also vote for Sheffield, Helton and Wagner.

I'd vote for Kent.

I'd vote for Wagner and Helton, might be talked into Rollins, Kent, or Rolen. Why am I thinking Sheffield was tied up in the Steroid/Balco mess?

Every year, there’s always one guy that baffles how they’re not in yet. In the past, it was Raines, Bagwell, Edgar Martinez, and Larry Walker. Now my focus is on Billy Wagner. I’d argue that he was better than Hoffman!

Jones, Helton, Manny, Arod, Wagner, Rolen

A lot of people just don't think ninth inning only closers should be considered unless they're as transcendent as Rivera. It took Hoffman, who retired as the all-time saves leader, three years to get in. The all-time leader in any other category like that would get on the first ballot no question.

And it's admittedly a very small sample, but Wagner's career playoff ERA of 10.03 isn't doing him any favors either. I'd agree with you he was a bit better than Hoffman (with less longevity) but you're not going to convince a portion of the electorate to ever vote for a one inning reliever not named Rivera.

if Clemens and Bonds can't get in then AROD and Manny should not be in either. Wagner should, Kent, possibly Beltran and Rolen.

I'm surprised to see so much love for Sheffield and so little love for Abreu... I wouldn't put either in, but I would consider them very equivalent players. 30 years ago Sheffield's 500 career HRs would have really moved the needle, but with so many guys in that club now I just don't think it's a realistic pass into the HOF anymore. Overall, given Abreu's vastly superior value defensively and as a baserunner I see the two of them as pretty much of a wash...

I loved Todd Helton, and would have a hard time not voting for him, but it's hard to ignore his almost 200-point home/road OPS split.

I'd vote for A-Rod, Manny, Billy Wagner, Jones, and Rolen for sure. Tough call on Helton.

The more I look into Rollins I think he deserves to be in. His 10 most similar players:
  1. Barry Larkin (861.4) *
  2. Alan Trammell (850.4) *
  3. Lou Whitaker (836.1)
  4. Roberto Alomar (829.5) *
  5. Edgar Renteria (819.6)
  6. Ryne Sandberg (814.3) *
  7. Jay Bell (804.3)
  8. Ted Simmons (797.1) *
  9. Joe Morgan (795.3) *
  10. Ray Durham (795.2)
