The Final Juice Tournament: Round Two Topic

Starting in 1885, I’ve listed every two-year period chronologically and have taken the best franchise in that two year period and combined it with the worst franchise in that two year period and created a combo.

I split up the seasons into fifteen leagues with plenty of choices in each one. Like Round One, there are no National and American League (or American Association) splits in this round. No one should have a problem finding a combo they like.

Team Building: The combinations are listed with the better team named first, followed by the weaker team second. Your roster can have no more than TEN players from the better franchise and the rest must come from the weaker franchise. For example, if you chose the “1903-1904: Philadelphia Athletics – Chicago White Sox” in League Two, you can only have ten players from the Athletics and the other fifteen players must come from the White Sox.

Clones! I started to go with no clones but I thought that allowing one in the last round made things a bit more interesting, so we’re going to go down that road again. ONE per team. It can be either a pitcher or a position player – and it must come from one of your two years and one of your two franchises. In other words, if you have the 1919-1920 Red Sox, you can use the 1919 version of Babe Ruth but you can’t use the 1920 version since that player is from the Yankees.

League Alignment
The top 30 teams from Round One will get to choose which league and which division in that league that they desire. After the top 30 team owners make their selection, each of the fifteen leagues will have a separate draft board set up in “TheJuice6’s Theme League Draft Forum” to finish out the picks for each league. Like the first 30, every follow up pick can and must include their division choice with their team selection.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

NO CAP – Build the best roster you can from your combo.

Clones: Just one per team as mentioned above.

Designated Hitter: Yes
Waiver Wire: No
Injuries – Turned On
Trades: No
A.A.A.: No

You may use either partial or full season stats of any player who had a split season - as long as the stats indicate it was for your franchise.

Stadium – You must use a stadium that existed during the time-frame of your combo AND was the home ballpark for one of your two franchises. If that ballpark isn’t in the database, you must use WhatIfSports Park.

Who Moves On?

Once Round TWO is complete, the owners who own the eight playoff teams in each league will earn a spot in Round Three. 8 x 15 = 120 spots. That leaves 120 spots to fill. The final 120 spots will be awarded to the teams who had the most wins across all 15 leagues (who didn't make their league's playoffs). The tie-break (should it come into play) will be (1) Highest Exp. %, and (2) Most Home Wins.

Rounds Three through Seven will all be completely different than Rounds One and Two. I’ve already got them figured out but will post them later.

Here are the Combos that are available for each league:

In other words, if you have the 1919-1920 Red Sox, you can use the 1919 version but you can’t use the 1920 version since that player is from the Yankees.

I don't understand the clones part. Are you referencing Babe Ruth? Are you saying the clone has to be from the same franchise?
12/4/2022 1:38 PM
He left out Ruth's name, but I'm sure that's who he meant. Similar to round 1, your clone has to be from one of the four teams.

His example: 1919-1920: Brooklyn Robins – Boston Red Sox --> both versions of your clone must come from either 1919 Red Sox, 1920 Red Sox, 1919 Robins, 1920 Robins. So this team couldn't also use 1920 Ruth since he didn't play for 1920 Red Sox or 1920 Robins.

I think in the rare event if your clone happened to play for both franchises in your 2-team group, that would be ok too.

Exactly. Yeah, old age is a bear. I forgot to add The Bambino to the example. Fixed now.

1889-1890: Brooklyn Bridegrooms - Philadelphia Athletics

This team in League #1 is going to be very tricky to build and to validate. Some folks may not realize there are two different 1890 Philadelphia Athletics teams. And there is a high probability players from both 1890 A's teams will be rostered.

One is in the American Association (AA), the other is in the Players League (PL). I am assuming we are using the one from the AA.

Correct - the Athletics from the A.A. - there's two seasons to pick from for that team where as from 1889-1890, the other franchise only existed in 1890 (and 1891).

FYI, same thing exists for the 1890 New York Giants

Yep - same scenario. The available team is the Giants from the N.L. only. The other Giants team (the P.L.) only existed for one season.

I'll correct the above list to indicate such...

"have taken the best franchise in that two year period and combined it with the worst franchise in that two year period and created a combo."

I'm not understanding if the above is true, why is every team listed in each two-year set?
12/5/2022 12:09 AM
The best franchise is paired with the worst franchise.
The second-best franchise for that two-year period is paired with the second-worst franchise of that period.
The third-best franchise...etc...etc...etc...

12/5/2022 1:35 AM
A minor point, but in the team list the post-1957 Giants are being shown as New York rather than San Francisco.

Question: for the teams that don't finish in the top 30 in Round 1, are they randomly assigned a league or do they get to pick in some sort of order? Thanks
12/5/2022 10:12 AM
It's not completely random, although it might as well be since those not in the top 30 do not get any say in which league they will play in. thejuice6 has an algorithm that is loosely based on the standings to allocate the teams into the various leagues and draft order. There are checks & balances to make sure those with multiple teams don't end up 4 teams in one league and 1 team in another league. If your team is ranked 50th overall, and there are 15 leagues, you will have the 4th pick in a league.
