Okay, I found them but WHY is the default setting for a modern style 5-6 inning pitcher?

What it TPC and MPC?

Total pitch count?

They had guys with over 200 innings pitched set at 75.
How many total innings do you have? What kind of rotation are you using? This will all factor in to how your default pitch counts are set.

TPC is target pitch count
MPC is Max pitch count.

if it’s set for 100tpc and 110mpc, then a pitcher won’t start another inning if he’s at the TPC, but if he hits it mid-inning, he’ll stay in to his MPC.

at the very top of your managers office you can also change your team pinch hit settings, and in the hitters advanced settings you can check or uncheck players from getting pinch hit for.

I tried to reset TPC to 150, but when I hit "save settings" it just reverts back to the default.

I don’t know the full make up of your team, but if you set to 150TPC you’ll likely have major fatigue issues pretty early on.

I play my own leagues with Diamond Mind. From what I've seen so far, it is FAR SUPERIOR to this sim. You can't even pick an era here. I guess all games are played in some neutral era. In Diamond Mind when you play a 19th century league you can set the era so that fielders make errors at the rate they actually did then when teams averaged 3+ errors per game. Or you can play the games in the Steroid Era when home runs are flying out of the park. It seems that in this sim there is no choice of era.

Also in Diamond Mind you set up depth charts at each position. You can also set it up so that bench players start a certain percentage of the time at certain positions, separate against lefties and righties. For instance you have Raines starting in LF for the 1998 Yankees, but you can set it so Spencer starts 25% of the time against lefties and Ledee starts 15% of the time against righties. Doesn't see like you can do any of that here.

There also doesn't seem to be injuries here. Injuries are a huge part of any baseball season. A team's depth doesn't mean much if no injuries occur.

Why? Nolan Ryan averaged more than 150 pitches a game in like 1973. But like I said, it won't let me raise the TPC. It just reverts back to what they had it on if I try to raise it. It's set at 75 for a guy with over 200 innings and bunch of complete games.

Here's my team, just 3 starters because it's only a 10 game season.

I took Piitiger because I needed to get to their minimum of total innings even though it's just a 10 game season.

I am 6-3 right now, although I should be 7-2. Blew a huge lead in the first game of the season when they lit up Wagner for like 5 runs.

Okay, I was able to change the TPC and MPC, but there's only 1 game left anyway.
12/5/2022 11:48 PM
In Diamond Mind I don't use individual seasons. I use their All Time Great Players discs where each player is made up based on his best 5 consecutive seasons, except if his career was very short. In that case they base him on his full career stats. Every player is normalized for era, so guys like Cochrane and Lindstrom have an average around .285 because of when they played. And Cobb is at like .380 for the same reason, as averages were very low for much of his career, so his .366 goes up.

I have made up 128 of the greatest multi-season teams of all time. When I run tournaments each matchup plays 162 games head to head. The 1936-39 Yankees are the best team and they will win the tournament around half of the time. Other teams that have won include the 1949-53 Yankees, the 1926-28 Yankees, the 1942-46 Cardinals, the 1996-2001 Yankees, and a few others. The 1942-45 Pittsburg Crawfords of the Negro Leagues have gotten to the semi-finals a couple of times.

When I run draft leagues I usually do it by decades, or with a 19th century league where any player who played at all in the 19th century is eligible.

I also have all time rosters for each team, and a league based on where a player was born, with states and foreign countries. California is the best team with Ted Williams at DH, Barry Bonds, DiMaggio and a platoon of Gwynn and Bobby Bonds in RF. McGwire at 1B. Joe Gordon at 2B, Seaver and Randy Johnson among the pitchers.

If I unclick "pinch hit" on a pitcher, does that mean he will NEVER be pinch hit for?

In Diamond Mind they have frequency for pinch hitting for a player from 1-5, 1 being rarely and 5 being most often. They also have options for each pitcher from 1-5 for challenging hitters, pitching around, pickoff attempts, etc...

If I'm losing 2-1 or even tied in the bottom of the 9th I want my pitcher to be pinch hit for.

Okay, we won our last game to finish 7-3. Pittinger went 8.1 innings on 2 days rest, allowing just 2 hits and one run. He finished 2-0, 2.84 in 4 starts. We finished in a 3 way tie for first place, 66 runs and 49 runs allowed. We scored the most runs in the league by far. We had 7 .300+ hitters out of 9 regulars (platoon in LF and the RH hitter was at .350 in 20 AB).

Mickey Cochrane with 15 RBI. Tommy Leach with 10 runs and 10 RBI. The team his .318 with an OBP of .399. We slugged .429 and had a team OPS of .827. Speaker and Boudreau each hit in all 10 games. Team ERA was 4.65. We played in the 1970s version of Yankee Stadium.

BTW, another problem I have with this sim is that they only have the more modern ballparks. They do not even have the 1923-1973 Old Yankee Stadium, with the real deep fences in CF and left center. They just have the 70s version after the park was revamped and the current stadium that opened in 2009. No Baker Bowl, No Forbes Field, No Griffith Stadium, etc...

I also don't see anyplace with league leaders like they have in the basketball game.

Why would I do that?

I have a load of guys who would join a Diamond Mind Draft League if I had one right now, and I don't have to have 24 teams, the league can be any number of teams that I want up to 64 teams. My leagues are usually from 8 teams to 16 teams. 24 teams is too many.

In Diamond Mind every fielder has a rating for range, and for error rate. The error rate works on a below or above league average for that era or season. So a SS who made 41 errors in 1908 will make fewer errors than a SS who made 26 errors in 2020. 41 errors at SS is well below average for 1908, while 26 errors at SS is above average for 2020. The error rating is expressed numerically, with 100 being average. Anything below 100 is better than average. So if a SS has an error rating of 70, he will only make 70% as many errors as an average SS for the era that you are playing in. If the SS has an error rating of 130, he will make 30% MORE errors than an average SS for that era.

Unlike this sim, the outfielders have separate ratings for LF, CF and RF, and most of them do not play all 3 spots, although many do. And you can play an outfielder at an OF spot that he is not rated at without much penalty at all, especially if you take an OFer only rated in CF and play him at LF.

The OFers and catchers have throwing ratings, and catchers have separate passed ball ratings just as the pitchers have separate WP ratings.

This isn't Diamond Mind, so what they do doesn't apply here.

Theme league, progressive league and Champions leagues offer a broader range of available parks. Open league play is considered a beginner league, hence the limited list of parks.

You're either gonna play this with an open mind, or not. Stop judging it before you figure out how it works...

Outfielders here have fielding pct and range ratings, and catchers have caught stealing ratings and passed ball ratings. Dig deeper into the draft center.

League leader stats are in here, perhaps not in the Spring Training mode. You'll need to try an Open League to get a better view of things.

The 10 game exhibition season likely has limited settings and stats. Idk if injuries occur in them but they do in open leagues and theme leagues that allow it (creators can turn injuries on or off).

a lot of what you’re complaining doesn’t exist here, you just havent discovered yet. Fielders have defense and range ratings, catchers have arm ratings, you just gotta play around more.

I’m not gonna force anyone to spend more time on this site than they want too, but this site offers more individual and creative team building. You can play different era themes, you can play mixed era themes, there’s a very in-depth code that attempts to normalize different eras.

My guess his actual purpose here is to "market" for Diamond Mind. Not going to guess reason but logically if you already found what you felt was the perfect site for you, how much time would you actually spend on another site complaining about it without bothering to or apparently even wanting to understand how to use it.

Just my initial thoughts, not worth more than that.

OP may be a lost cause, but let's try to be helpful and not discourage other newer players from posting here.
He's not exactly a "newer" member here. The account he's posting from was created 14 years ago.

Still hasn't bought a full-season SLB team, though, so in that regard he is indeed a "newer" member!
