I stopped replying because every time I’d answer his questions or give him information to check up on, he’d just ignore it and continue ranting. I have no issues with asking questions or being curious- but the holier-than-thou attitude is getting old.
Why are you still coming to this thread?

Is it like because you can't manage to look away from the 3 car accident?

I'll be around if anyone needs me. I can't contribute anything more here.

YES! Back on the winning track with a 3-2 win as Zahn goes all the way. We needed that to get our bullpen back in order.

McCovey rested and Harry Agganis went 2 for 4 in his place. Speaker with a bit of fatigue still had a triple, 2 walks, and 2 SB. I had turned up stealing for a few guys as Terry Kennedy has like a C minus arm. Yogi went 0 for 4 and fell to .158. Cochrane down to .216. McCovey hasn't hit much yet. We need to break out of this, but I guess the Astrodome is not the place to do it. Series finale overnight and then we go home for 4 games against another division rival, Target Best.

Zahn gave up just solo homers to Carey and Eddie Murray. Cochrane did throw out Roberto Alomar on a SB attempt. Cullenbine with 2 hits and a walk.

What do you like and what don't you like about Diamond Mind?
It's input based, not outcome based. It factors in elements of performance that are discretionary or situational outcomes as skills or inputs. This is why I primarily like WIS and OOTP, most of the others focus on the inputs and not on the outcomes. Allows flexibility in how a player is used and doesn't pigeon hole use to how they were used IRL. Just because a player hit 8th and got a nuch of SAC opportunities doesn't mean they're better at laying down a sacrifice than a guy who hit leadoff and didn't get those opportunities. Or maybe I prefer seeing Walter Johnson throw 2 innings every other game as a reliever ala Mike Marshall with Kershaw and Sale in a 2-man rotation as openers in front of him. WIS and OOTP make that really easy (gamesim+ has some nice features here, too, but their user dashboard and functionality is difficult to navigate, PredictionMachine started strong and was essentially a WIS clone, that folded), the rest focus on the input metrics not the ones that actually determine outcomes.
Not having pitchers rated for holding runners is absurd. In 1961 in like 275 innings Whitey Ford had just 3 SB attempts against him, and all 3 guys were thrown out. Nolan Ryan on the other hand could not hold runners on, and it's a big reasons as to why he wasn't that great of a run preventer. A big reason why his career ERA+ was just 112. In this sim Ryan will be better than real life because his inability to hold runners on is totally negated.

In his career Ryan allowed 757 SB with only 252 caught, so the entire league stoile against him at a
75% success rate. By contrast Whitey Ford in his entire career allowed just 30 SB with 54 guys caught. The
success rate stealing against Ford was just 36%.

But What If Sports decides that holding runners ratings for pitchers are not needed. Every pitcher is the same when
it comes to the running game. That's pretty preposterous.
Whitey Ford pitched to Yogi Berra and Elston Howard, two of the best catchers at throwing out runners, Nolan Ryan had half his career to Jerry Grote and Mark Bailey. When he had Ellie Rodriguez and Ivan Rodriguez he was at or better than league average in CS%. I think that shows the catcher has a larger impact than the pitcher there. The pitcher may have a role, but it doesn't appear very significant, if it is at all in terms of simulation. I prefer the WIS way.

Series finale overnight pits Frank Corridon (1-0, 1.59) for us against Cy Morgan (1-0, 1.89), who just threw 2 innings (24 pitches) in this game. We'll see if they make a change before game time. Our bullpen looks better now with McDowell (92) almost back to full strength. I'll stick him in for the next game as RHS. Gates Brown, who has not hit at all yet, will start in LF in place of a slumping Yogi, who will be catching the game after so Cochrane gets a day off. McCovey back to 100 and back in the lineup.

If they switch to a lefty starter Chad Allen will see his first action and start in LF in place of Buxton, who is at 95 right now and needs to give Speaker a day of in the next series. I REALLY Like having something to do after each game with the lineup and the pitcher spots, etc...it really keeps your head in the season instead of just waiting for results.

What about spitballs? Gaylord Perry must be rolling over in the grave... Why can't Big Unit make a bird explode with a heater? Why can't we have Mike Hargrove (The Human Rain Delay) take an extra five minutes to work the pitcher? He's got that hand donut, right? Can Larry Walker wear his helmet backwards? Perhaps have an option for Doc Ellis to be on LSD, or maybe he's sober that day? Can I get Piniella or Weaver to kick dirt on home plate, fire his guys up? There's no option for the fire in the belly of the manager? Does Vince Coleman get rolled by a tarp? Why the hell not?? Where's the attention to details for crying out loud? We really should have had Tarek put more thought into this...sheesh.

"The pitcher may have a role, but it doesn't appear very significant"

A 75% success rate lifetime against Ryan with an average of one steal a game vs. 36% success rate with an average of one steal every 17 games against Ford "doesn't appear very significant?"

What would be significant, how about 95% success rate with 2 steals a game vs. 8% success rate with one steal every 225 games?

The pitcher has at least as much to do with this as the catchers. Rollie Sheldon on the same 1961 Yankees. Ford allowed 0 stolen bases with 3 caught in 275 innings. Sheldon allowed 7 SB with 4 caught in 162 innings.

On the 1987 Astros Ryan allowed 45 steals with just 7 caught stealing in 212 innings. That's an 87% success rate for the runners with an average of 1.32 steals against Ryan per game.

On the same 1987 Astros Knepper allowed 16 teals with 7 caught in 178 innings. The success rate was 70%, which was one point below the league average that year of 71%. They stole just .48 baes per game against Knepper.

On the same 1987 Astros Jim DeShaies allowed 18 steals with 14 caught. That's a success rate of just 56% with the same catcher that Ryan had at 87%.

The pitcher is AT LEAST as important in controlling the running game as the catcher is.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
The early parks didn't have outfield walls, fans sat out there in the grass, picnic style. What was in their lunch basket? Did they voluntarily give baseballs back to the fielder, it was in play after all. This was clearly in the ground rules, but not here? Why don't I see Rube Waddell chase after a fire truck? He did several times during his career while on the mound. How is this overlooked? I want to see someone charge the mound against Gibson. Hell yeah, I will certainly have Cepeda playing 1B, the guy could really throw some good haymakers...

The fact that my George Brett can’t put pine tar halfway up is that is beyond ridiculous. And I tried giving my big Mac some HGH but he’s still not hitting home runs like I feel like he should.

Whoever starts the thread, it's their thread. You can post here all you want, but I'm just pointing out that announcing that you are done in the thread and then coming right back less than an hour later is a bit embarrassing.

Polar Bear rarely hits 50 dingers here ? Preposterous ! No All-Star game or HR derby ?! FAKE BASEBALL !!
Oh, there will be an all star game in any league that I am in. I'll run it using the "Dream Teams" function.

I'm sure if you put the rookie Polar Bear into a good HR park he'll get to 50 sometimes.
