You can check passed balls with category fielding and split extended (you currently have zero). As long as you use a legit catcher, there will rarely be a passed ball.

What about wild pitches?

Some pitchers throw a lot of them, and they are important in many innings.

Zahn has 0 wild pitches in over 90 innings now. In real life he had 7 WP in 250+ innings. Roy Michel has 1 WP, so they do occur.

In determining if the batter gets a hit l vs r or r vs l is built in to the algo for each batter isn't it? Thus a switch hitter always gets the "bonus". Hence why people have some many switch hitters and they usually outperform, at least that's my sense. Especially the ones who outperformed league average in real life.

SFord is my league, his lineup is ALL switch hitters :)
The switch hitters already have their "boost" built into their real life stats. They SHOULD NOT get any platoon advantage when they face the opposite side. But a regular righty hitter SHOULD get a boost against lefties, and a drop against righties, because his rate stats can change a lot if you only let him play against lefties. Sounds like the sim needs to work this out if many of the best owners are usually mainly switch hitters. If true it really dampens my enthusiasm to play more seasons.

Back in the pre-Fox days, there was a bunch of discussion between the users and the devs around this point and the best way to implement to capture RL performance in sim while understanding nuance of decision tree and sim roster construction and constraints.

I think lefty relievers seem to do well in this because people have leftie batters or switch hitters. some of them may not be good righty vs a lefty picther\. Chapman and Wagner always seem to do well for me.

This is correct. There is no bonus for switch hitters, just no penalty as j4m explained.

Yep, switch hitters get a “0” when facing L/R, whereas a left handed hitter gets a “+” when facing righties and a “-“ when facing lefties. Vice versa for right handed hitters.

switch hitters are “easier” since you don’t have to worry about the handedness, but depending on the league you’re in, lefties or righties could perform better on the whole

My fault I guess I worded it badly. The switch hitter never takes a penalty is what I should have said, in that way switch hitters seem to be very prevalent.

Again, one team led 2-0 and the other team scored 3 unanswered runs late to win 3-2. This time we we were on the short end. Morgan and Mitchell were both dealing and it was 0-0 after 4 and a half. We took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th, but they got 2 in the 6th and one in the 7th, and held on for a 3-2 win. Morgan got the win with a 2 inning save from Mariano Rivera. Jim Henderson took the loss.

We took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th. After one out, Mitchell and Speaker walked, and both came home on Boudreau's 23rd double. That's 38 RBI now for Lou. We only got 5 hits in the game. Balking tied it with 2 in the 6th, RBI singles by Carey and Ramirez. They then took the lead with a stick in 7th, on a solo HR from Terry Kennedy.

We went down 1-2-3 in the 7th and 8th. In the bottom of the 9th there were 2 quick outs, and then a pinch single from Helms. Speaker batting, and Rivera got him to pop up to end the game. Would've been real nice to take this one and go for a sweep against the top team in the league overnight. Instead we look to win the series.

Series finale overnight. It's a battle of portsiders, as Balking to NO has Eddie Plank (9-1, 2.45) going, and we have Geoff Zahn (6-5, 4.28). Murcer gets his first day off since getting here, with Buxton in LF.

I just dumped 1930 Cochrane who was not hitting like I expected, and grabbed 1936 Dickey who just came in to waivers. Cost me most of my excess cash to pay the 10% fee, but if Dickey can be like /.300/.375/.500 it will be worth it. Cochrane slashed just .256/.329/.353. Even with normalization from 1930 you gotta get more from a guy whose real life slash was .357/.424/.526.

It’s not just one player in a vacuum though. It’s Cochrane’s poor normalization, plus whichever park effects are in place (most teams tend to choose pitchers parks to help with fatigue), and then a lot of deadballers/pitchers who normalize really well. It’s why for me, it’s fun trying to find the guys who perform well, but also can’t react too quickly. My 1975 Schmidt was hitting .205 after 50 games, he’s hit.430 the last 20. You gotta ride the highs and lows sometimes just like RL

I played that Cochrane once and couldn't believe he was so bad, I cut bait and never looked back :). Normalization is the key sometimes :)

Playing in 1976 Yankee Stadium. The deadball pitchers should NOT be normalizing well, because they are now facing lineups full of HR hitters, which there was no such thing in their era. They were pitching in leagues with splits like the 1908 AL,,.239/.294/.304. Those guys should normalize terribly when facing live ball hitters.

The league OPS was .598. All you have to do is check the great pitchers who pitched in deadball and in live ball.

Walter Johnson during deadball with ERAs of under 2.00 in 9 out of 10- seasons, and 2.21 in the 10th season. Then go to 1924 when he was the best pitcher in the league with an ERA of 2.72 in cavernous Griffith Stadium. Johnson gave up less than 100 HRs in his entire career. In 1916 he gave up ZERO HRs in 369.2 innings. He gave up just 40 HRs in Griffith Stadium in over 3000 innings. It's easy not to walk people too, when you don't have to worry at all about anybody but Babe hitting the ball out of the park. Babe had 10 HRs off of Johnson. The most Babe hit off of any one pitcher, was Rube Walberg, a lefty, with 17.

Speaking of Babe, trivia, who was the ONLY left handed hitter to hit a HR against Babe?

Nice end to the night as we took the series from Balking with a 5-4 win tonight. This might be the first series they lost all year. This was a walkoff win for us in the bottom of the 11th on a Cullenbine RBI single up the middle. The win goes to Cionel Perez. Cy Morgan took the loss. Our bullpen went 4 scoreless innings.

For the third time in the series the losing team had a multiple run lead early. This time Balking got to Zahn right away for 3 runs in the first. Coleman singled, Carey walked, and Marte with a 3 run HR. It was still 3-0 through 4 full innings. They got another run oin the 5th when Speaker dropped a flyball and Coleman ended up on second on the error. Carey followed with an RBI singe. We got out of that with no more damage, but we're halfway through the game, losing 4-0 to the best team in the league. Things looked bleak.

Plank retired us easy in the 5th and 6th. Still 4-0 after 6. In the 7th with one out, Carey got in, but was caught stealing by our new starting catcher, Bill Dickey. Zahn got through the inning, and we came to bat, bottom 7, against Plank. Here is how the inning went:

HUGE 2 out RBI hits by Greenberg and Buxton drew us within a run at 4-3. The crowd and our bench came alive. Alcala in to pitch the 8th. There was a 2 out single, and then pinch hitter Haslin was called out on strikes to end the frame. Roy Face comes in and mows us down 1-2-3 on just 11 pitches. Top 9 now, Castillo in to pitch for us as Alcala was hit for by Murcer. Kennedy leads of with a single, but Castillo ten retires Coleman, Carey amd Marte in order.

Bottom 9, we're down a run. Ralph Comstock in to pitch, and he would not get an out. Speaker and Boudreau hit back to back doubles to tie the game. No outs with the winning run on second. Comstock out and Dick Hall in. Hall needs just 13 pitches to rifle through our 3-4-5 hitters and end the inning. Going to the 10th now.

Castillo still in. Murray flies out, and then Ramirez reaches on an E-6 from Boudreau. Alomar flies out, but Guzman walks. Weaver comes out and takes the ball from Castillo, bringing in Fetters, a strikeout pitcher who walks a lot of people. It's first and second, 2 outs. They call Dick hall back and send up Tyler Houston to hit. Fetters gets him on a popup to 2B. Bottom 10 and Cy Morgan in, yesterday's starter who went 6 innings. Dickey walks, but then gets Leach, Helms and pinch hitter Chad Allen, and sends the game to the 11th inning.

Cionel Perez in to pitch for us. Kennedy singles leading off, and Coleman SACS him to second. Carey pops up and Marte walks. Two outs, and one of the top clutch hitters in baseball history up, Eddie Murray. Perez gets Murray on a 6-4 force out at 2B to end the inning. Bottom 11 now, and Morgan is still in. He threw 97 pitches in the last game! Here is what happened:

A HUGE win for us, battling back from 4-0 down after 6 innings. A fabulous series all around. Three one run games, all come from behind wins. with the finale going 11 innings. I can't wait to battle these guys again.

We are 32-26, 10 games back, and 6 games out of second place. Next we play a 3 gamer at Target Best, the second place team in the division that we must catch to make the playoffs. They beat us 3 out of 4 in the first series we played against them. First game tomorrow afternoon they go with 1905 Clark Griffith (3-1, 2.61). We've got Max Scherzer (0-0, 1.80) with his second start.

The games are at Target Field in Minneapolis which is shown as reducing home runs a lot (-4), but a few years ago the Twins set the all time team HR record with like 307. They have 1921 Schang catching, a B minus thrower. By the way, Schang was the first player to even his home runs from both sides of the plate in the same game.
