Our 4th straight one run game, and a loss. Scherzer was bad, and we lost 7-6 after leading 5-0 after 4 and a half innings. Fourth straight game where the team with the multi run early lead can't hold on. George Smith gets the won while Fetters absorbs the walkoff loss.

Leach's 3 run double in the first made it 4-0 before Target ever batted. Griffith lasted just 2 innings, but they battled back late, caught up in the 8th, and won in the 9th on a single and SB from Carey and an RBI hit from Daly. Highlights for our batters were 3 hits and 3 runs for Speaker, and a double and triple and 3 RBIs for Leach.

Game 2 of the series this evening, and it's almost a must win for us. We are back to 11 games out and 7 games behind this team that we are playing. They have Dick Bosman (5-5, 3.26) going. We counter with Roy Mitchell (6-2, 3.44). We can use a CG badly here, with just one fresh arm in the pen right now.

ANOTHER one run game....this time WE WON. A 5-4 final with Mitchell going 8 innings and scattering 12 hits and 3 walks into just 4 runs. Fetters came right back after yesterday's loss and got the save. Bosmon went 5.1 innings and allowed r runs to take the loss. John Denny was awesome over the final 3.2 innings, allowing a hit and a walk and no runs.

Chipper Jones drove in the first run of the game with a single in the bottom of the first, but Speaker kept it from being a big inning by throwing out Roger Connor who tried to go from first to third on the play. We tie it at 1-1 in the third as Speaker scores on a groundball force play from Cullenbine. Each team got 2 in the 5th. Cullenbine and Greenberg with the RBIs for us, and Carey and Daly for them.

Top 6 now, and Dickey leads off with a double and goes to third on a single by Leach. Helms with a deep SF to score Dickey. Denny replaces Bosman on the hill. Mitchell bunts Leach to second with a SAC. Speaker rips a laser beam to left for an RBI double to make it 5-3. Denny then balks, frst time I saw that it a box score. But we can't take advantage of the balk as Denny gets Boudreau to fly out and end the inning.

Top 6 and Schang doubles home a run with 2 outs. We walk Bancroft intentionally, and they let Denny hit, and he goes 6-3 to end the frame. 5-4 us. Nobody scores for a couple of innings, and Fetters comes in to start the 9th. A curious move now, as they send up Don Sutton to bat for John Denny. A quick check shows that Sutton had an OPS over .800 that season. But Fetters retires them 1-2-3 to end the game. Mitchell goes to 7-2.

THREE STARS
1. Tris Speaker - 3 for 5, 2 runs, RBI and big OF assist.
2. Roy Mitchell - 8 innings for the win, and a nice rest for most of the bullpen.
3. Mike Fetters - A 1-2-3 inning in the 9th for the save on 12 pitches.

Big game overnight tonight. If we lose we end up 3-3 against the 2 top teams ahead of us. We show we can play with them, but gain no ground. But if we win we take 2 out of 3 from each team and move up some in the process. They have lefty Jerry Reuss (4-5, 3.40) going, and we go with John Hiller (1-1, 3.06).

Unbelievable. A 6th straight one run game, and we won, 10-9. So we take 2 out of 3 in each series. It was tied 9-9 after 8 innings. We put up a stick in the top of the 9th on 2 huge errors by McCreery. Bottom 9 and Caminiti leads off with a walk. The goat McCreery then grounds into a DP, and Schang strikes out to end the game. Alcala blew the save in the 8th, but got the win. Charlie Smith took the loss.

We pummeled Reuss for 5 runs in 5.1 innings and led 5-0 after 5 innings with Hiller mowing down Target. Bottom 6 and Hiller fell apart and gave up 5 runs while only getting one out. They led 7-6 after 7 innings. We got 3 in the 8th to go up 9-7, and then they tied it in the bottom of the inning, 9-9, after 8 innings. See above for how it ended.

Target's offense was really spread around, with 7 guys scoring at least one run and 6 guys having at least one RBI. We also had 7 guy score at least one run, and 4 of our guys had 2 RBI, one guy had one RBI.

THREE STARS
1. Lou Boudreau - 4 for 5 and a walk, run, 2 RBI
2. Tommy Leach - 3 for 6, triple, run, 2 RBI
3. Hank Greenberg - 2 for 3, run, 2 RBI

ANOTHER ONE RUN GAME!

Again we led, but lost the game, This time 2-1. Steve Howe got the win in relief, and Zahn took the loss, but he gave us a much needed complete game.

Neither team had a baserunner until Kauff led off the top of the 4th with a single. Top 5 now, and Dickey picks Ryan Braun off of first base. Hadn't noticed any pickoffs before, let alone one by the catcher. Bottom 5 and we broke through with a run on a 2 out RBI hit from Zahn. Could have been a big inning as Dickey led off with a hit, but Chad Allen then GIDP'd.

The Stars then got solo runs in the 6th and 7th to take a 2-1 lead. In the 6th Boudreau singled in Belliard, and in the 7th Furillo scored when Kinsler his into a DP. We only got 5 hits, and 2 of those came from our pitcher, Zahn. They got 7 hits, 2 of them from Braun. They have the POTG to Howe, who retired all 6 batters he faced in the 6th and 7th and got the win, throwing just 17 pitches. Shane Greene went the last 2 innings and notched the save.

Game 2 of the series this evening. The Stars go with 1980 Steve Stone (6-5, 4.90). We have Scherzer (0-0, 4.63) throwing. We need Max to get it going. Bullpen in much better shape now after Zahn's CG effort.

Okay, am I being punked here? Am I on Candid Camera? ANOTHER One run game, that's 8 in a row. This time we won, 11-10. AGAIN the winning team came from behind. We were down 6-0, and 10-6, and we won the game. Cionel Perez with the win, and Fetters with the save. Steve Howe took the loss. Scherzer got absolutely killed. I gotta check the waiver wire and see who I can get for him.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40570575&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

Carew hit a 2 run HR in the first, and then the Stars got 4 more in the third, 2 of them on a Kinsler HR. We got 2 back in the bottom of the third, 2 run double from Cullenbine. Bottom 6 we chased Steve Stone and put up a 4-spot to tie the game at 6-6. Cullenbine led off with a HR, and a few batters later Dickey blasted a 3 run bomb.

The tie did not last long as the Stars again pummeled Scherzer in the top of 7th, knocking him from the game. He allowed 8 runs (7 earned) in 6.1 innings. Alcala came in and threw gasoline on the fire and the Stars ended up with 4 runs for a 10-6 league. Kinsler with a 2 run double.

Our guys were incredible. They batled back from 6-0 to tie, and then right away we give them back 4 runs. But we did not quit. Bottom 7 RBIs from Dickey and Leach cut it to 10-8. Top 8, we bring in Perez and he gets them 1-2-3 on 9 pitches. Bottom 8 now, Steve Howe in. With one out Boudreau doubles (his 27th) and Cullenbine walks. Hank Greenberg then launches a TITANIC 3 run HR to CF, giving us an 11-10 lead.

Top 9, Fetters on for the save chance. Agganis on for defense at 1B. Fetters retires Furillo, Rosen and Braun (back to back Jewish ballplayers) on just 9 pitches to end the game.

THREE STARS
1. Hank Greenberg - 2 for 3, 2 walks, 3 runs, and 3 RBIs on game winning 3 run HR in the 8th.
2. Bill Dickey - 3 for 5, HR run, 4 RBI
3. Roy Cullenbine - 2 for 4, double, HR, walk, 2 runs, 3 RBI

Okay, series finale tonight, we have a chance to win 3 straight series against our divisional competition. We are facing 1910 Cy Falkenberg (2-3, 5.83). We go with our ace, Roy Mitchell (7-2, 3.52). We are 35-28 now. Still 11 games back, but just 4 games out of second place and the wild card as Target Best is on a 4 game losing streak.

Scherzer's HR/9 is troubling for him. did he give up bombs?

Carew's barely cleared the wall in RCF in 1976 Yankees Stadium, which is not deep. Kinsler's was a flyball HR to left center.

Well, the one run streak is over, and we lost, 5-1. They were up 2-1 after 8, and they got 3 in the top of the 9th to put things away. Mitchell gave up 2 runs in 8 innings and took the loss. Falkenberg with a complete game 4 hitter for the win. So after all that we went 5-4 in 9 games against division rivals in this stretch.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40572836&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

Braun with a solo HR in the second. We tied it bottom 5 on a SF by our pitcher, Mitchell. They got the lead right back top 6 on an RBI single by Rosen. Mitchell left for a pinch hitter bottom 89. He gave up just 4 hits and a walk in 8 innings, lowering his ERA to 3.43. Top 9 now, and Henderson gets shelled, giving up 3 runs.....
