Hallelujah, we salvaged one game against LAD with a 5-1 win. Scherzer went 7.2 innings allowing just 4 hits and one run. Fetters finished up for the save. Scherzer notched his first decision here, getting the win. Buehler went 8.2 innings and took the loss.

W put up a stuck in the top of the first on an RBI double by Buxton, who had 4 hits. On a hunch I played him in LF against the right hander, and batted him 4th, dropping the slumping Greenberg to 6th. We made it 2-0 in the 4th on a deep flyball SF by Greenberg. LAD finally scored in the bottom of the 8th on an RBI double from the pitcher, Buehler. etters came in and struck out Trea Turner with the tying run on second.

Top 9 now, and we put up 3 runs.

New series starts overnight tonight, at home for 3 games with LA Suckerpunch. They are throwing lefty 1906 Beany Jacobson (5-6, 5.36). Looks like we will see lefties in all 3 games. We also have a lefty going, Jack Doscher (1-0, 0.90).
1/1/2023 10:55 PM
We REALLY sucker punched LA Suckerpunch in an 18-2 blowout. In 3.2 innings "Beany" Jacobson gave up 9 runs on 11 hits and 3 walks. Needless to say, he took the loss. Jack Doscher Jr. went all the way for the win.

It was 11-0 after 5 innings, and we put up 7 in the bottom of the 8th to make it 18-0. They finally broke through and ruined Doscher's shutout in the 9th, with 2 measly runs. We had 21 hits and drew 7 walks, with 4 doubles and 4 home runs. That will help the ol' team OPS. Cullenbine, Buxton and Leach all with 3 hits and 4 RBI. Boudreau and Speaker also had 3 hits apiece.

THREE STARS
1. Jack Doscher - complete game win allowing just 2 runs
2. Roy Cullenbine - single, double, triple, 3 runs, 4 RBI
3. Byron Buxton - single, double triple, 2 runs, 4 RBI

Game 2 of the series against LA Suckerpunch this afternoon. They are pitching 1963 Sandy Koufax (10-6, 4.06). We are going with John Hiller (1-1, 4.30). We are now 40-33, 11 games out of first place in the division, and 5 games out of second place, and the wild card.
1/2/2023 10:31 AM
I knew that we would need some of those 18 runs we scored soon. We just lost 13-6. Koufax went 8 innings allowing 6 runs, but just 2 were earned. Hiller got crushed for 12 runs in 4 innings. Worst thing was we had to use 3 relievers to tire out our bullpen.

Merrifield had 5 hits for them, and Garvey (4) and Dunn (5) drove in most of the runs. Dickey had a 3 run HR. Greenberg 0 for 4. Been looking to drop him, but nobody suitable has come on the waiver wire yet. Hiller may go now too. He's served his purpose early in the season.
1/2/2023 2:16 PM
Finale of this 3 game series this evening. 1908 Billy Campbell (3-9, 5.31) goes for the Suckerpunch tonight, third consecutive lefty we will face, Roy Mitchell (7-4, 3.26) is on the bump for us.

Just waived Greenberg for 2020 Hosmer. Only 421 PA, but we are almost halfway through the season now. We also made money on the deal. Also dropped Chad Allen for 2015 Just Raggiano at the 5th OFer and tremendous RH pinch hitter. And finally we dropped Hiller and picked up 2018 Daniel Poncedeleon.

Remember, you will only get to use a prorated amount of those 421 PA through the rest of the season before his fatigue goes below 100%.

Did not know that, but Greenberg had like 520 and he was here a month and never got below 100.

We took the series finale, 3-1. Roy Mitchell goes all the way on a 5 hitter and improves to 8-4. Billy Campbell takes the loss and drops to 3-10.

L.A. took a very short-lived lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Garvey. They got just 3 hits with no walks in the following 8 innings. Meanwhile we got that run back in our half of the first on an RBI hit by Buxton. Then we got 2 more in the second, which closed the scoring for the day. The RBIs came from Mitchell and Speaker. Campbell was done after 6, and Jeremy Hellickson pitched 2 scoreless innings in relief.

THREE STARS
1. Roy Mitchell - complete game 5 hitter for the win, allowing just one run.
2. Tris Speaker - 3 for 3, walk, run, RBI
3. Byron Buxton - 2 for 4, double, RBI

Overnight tonight, we start a new series with the lowly Red Sox at Fenway. They are 27-48 on the season, third place in the AL East. We ae now 41-34, but 12 games out of first place and 6 games out of second place, and the wild card, in the AL Central.

Tim Wakefield (4-10, 4.95) starts for the Red Sox, and we are going with lefty Geoff Zahn (7-7, 4.10).
1/2/2023 7:13 PM
This is really becoming bad now, losing to these terrible teams. We just lost 10-4 to the 20 games under .500 Red Sox. Zahn lasted 5,1 innings, and actually did a miraculous job of only allowing 4 runs while yielding 10 hits and 4 walks. The Red Sox lit up our bullpen for 6 runs in 2.2 innings. The win went to Rich Hill in relief as we had tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the 7th.

Their catcher, Christian Vazquez, was the Player Of The Game with a HR, a double, and 2 singles, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. Mookie Betts had 3 hits. Bright spots for us were 2 hits apiece for Boudreau, Cullenbine and Hosmer. Boudreau with his 31st double, and Cullenbine with his 14th HR.
1/3/2023 1:38 AM
We are now 13 games out of first place and 7 games out of second place, and the Wild Card. We are 2-5 in our last 8 games. Game 2 of this series tomorrow afternoon. The Red Sox go with 1980 Mike Torrez (5-7, 5.83). We've got Max Scherzer (1-0, 4.13) throwing.
1/3/2023 1:42 AM
Okay, we won this afternoon, 10-5, but this W-L-W-L-W-L thing is not helping. We need to have another winning streak if we're gonna close the 7 game gap between us and a wild card spot. WOW!, I just looked at the box score. We were down 5-1 after 8 innings, but we EXPLODED for 9 runs in the top of the 9th. That's a nice way to start a winning streak. Papelbon took the loss after being whacked around for 6 unearned runs in the top of the 9th in relief of Oscar Fuhr. Jorge Alcala gets the win in relief to go 4-1 after pitching a scoreless 8th inning. Daniel Poncedeleon pitched the 9th to finish up.

https://www.whatifsports.com/slb/Boxscore.aspx?gid=40602572&pid=1&pbp=0&tf=10

It was 0-0 until the bottom of the 4th when the Red Sox scored 2 runs against Scherzer on RBIs from one of the 3 Betts, and Devers. We got one back in the top of the 5th on an RBI hit from Cullenbine. Bottom 5 and they get 3 more runs on a 3 run HR from who else? Betts. 5-1 now, but Weaver leaves Max in.

Nobody scores over the next 3 innings. Top 9, 5-1, and the bring Fuhr into what is NOT a save situation. Here is what then transpired:
