Hi. I was told about a loophole with the redshirt button where you can increase a player's WE by a whole bunch. ;)

Serious question though. I've taken over a team in D-2, which currently has 6 open scholarships. However, most of the recruiting for this past season is a lost cause since I'll be starting on the 2nd session of recruiting. How can I maximize my scouting and recruiting money for the following season? I know you can cut players that you didn't sign. If I leave 6 open scholarships into next season, how many players does SIM A1 sign assuming I took all the scholarships off the table. If I recall correctly, you can't have more than 3 walkons. Is that correct? However, the players SIM A1 signs, I have to wait until the second recruiting session to cut those players?

That is what I have heard as well. Search for single season Transfers also. Just as good as a walk-on, normally better.

The other suggestion is, sign crap role players with minute or start promises, then they will leave. Yes you take a rep hit, however starting out at a New School you are normally as low as you can get already. Just two suggestions I have used.

On the other hand, I have filled 9 open Scholarships at D2, all in RS2. Search Juco, Transfers, and actually look at a couple high number D3 States in your search. Most Human D3 Coaches don't even search D3 anymore in RS1, and will wait to see what they luck into from D2. There are ways of team building even in RS2.

Thank you for the information wvufan76. Biggest challenge I'm finding coming in during RS2, is a lot of D-3 schools are on some of the best players left available at the D-2 level. With most of the signing period preferences being either whenever or early. If I recall correctly, most of the whenevers sign during RS1. I wish I had saved some scouting money, but never thought to scout D-3. I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I'm in that situation.

Yep, I try to take over teams with 3 or more JRs for that reason. If they only have 1 or 2, it's not too hard to find 1 year transfers that are projected D3.

It's been a few years since I've played and had totally forgotten to take mostly juniors instead of seniors and realized my mistake once I started recruiting. Oh well.
