I will take......Expos Pitching. Got a few clarifying questions:

1) Since Mike Marshall is on my 1970 Expos pitching staff, he should be available to me. But since he plays in 1980(even though he plays for the Twins), he isn't right?

2) Our 1970 player can start at any point in his career, as long as the season you choose has a WIS eligible season?

3) Are we using WIS rosters or Baseball Reference rosters for 1970?

If epup1975 trades for Mike Marshall, could he then use him as his hired gun (if he traded in the 1980 version)?
Or if the Twins pitching isn't selected and epup1975 drafts him later, does that work.
What if Twins pitching isn't selected and no one chooses Mike Marshall?

If a player is in the league, you cant bring him up as a hired gun. (No Clones may be made)

plus he is only available to the team he played with first in the season in question. For 1970 that would be Houston anyway.

You can use baseball reference, but again, its the team he played with first for a season, weather its a wis eligible season or not.

In the classified ad, you wrote "You could however, if you own said player in 1980, but want to use the same player from your 1970 season instead, you can use that season as your Hired gun, losing the 1980 version, this counts as your 1 hired gun."
Q1, If I take the Red Sox OF, can I take Yastrzemski as my hired gun if I give up the 1980 Yaz?
Q2, If I took the Twins pitching and traded for Tiant, could I pick Tiant as my Hired Gun?
Q3, If I took the Twins pitching, and no one picked NYY pitching, and no one selected Tiant in the draft (he was not on any roster) could I pick Tiant as my Hired Gun?

I'm not looking for a loohole, just curious about the rules
(ps, I would think 1. Yes, 2. Yes, 3. No)

I just want to say, having only 10 years between 1970 and 1980 makes the hired gun a lot less valuable. A lot of the best choices from 1970 were almost certainly still in the league in 1980 and unusable. The only way I see the hired gun can be used is by choosing a player that is on your team in 1970 and 1980 or taking a player season from before 1970 and choosing a season before 1970 . This is very limiting and unfortunately it eliminates the choices I was going to make. I am very disappointed and not as excited as was.

rmarksduke brought to my attention a rule I myself had forgotten about, regaurding using a 1980 player from your roster that is also 0n your 1970 roster as your Hired Gun, which is in fact allowed as long as you drop your 1980 one.
I brought the rules over to pg1 of these forums so we all have easy access to them.

Thanks guys!

Yes, you are correct. This does limit things but I cant change it now, and the next time you get to bring a Hired Gun back, its a further span.
