I Guess, I still don't Understand the Rules then... Your Hired Gun can be someone Back in the 50's or 60's then?

Mays is on the 70 Giants in the OF. Your hired gun has to be on the roster in 1970 (playing the correct position), but you can start with any season in his career.
Since you have the Red Sox pitching, and Gary Peters was on the Red Sox in 1970, you can start with the 1963 Peters as your hired gun even though he was pitching for the White Sox then. Just have to be on the 1970 roster.

Ill go with the Baltimore Pitchers.

It is a little confusing. If a team selects the Reds infield, then they could use Johnny Bench as the hired gun but may only go back to his 1970 season per the rules as written. Whereas if the hired gun was not on the 1980 roster but is on the selected teams 1970 roster, then you can take any season of the players career. In my case with the 1980 Cardinals infield, I look to the 1970 Cardinals team and see Dick Allen. I can use him as my hired gun beginning with his 1964 season.

Correct?

I read it as you can use the hired gun from any season whether he is on your 80 roster or not. You just can't use both the hired gun and his 1980 clone.

I think you can - there is nothing in the rules that states you can't.

See, My Understanding was that you had to Draft any Team in the 1980's and you could only use one of those Players taking them back to there Yr of your choice... Like say, Steve Carlton back to say 1970 as your Hired Gun... I had NO idea you could Draft any Player from your 1970 Team that wasn't Listed by the Comish... So the Mays Pick is a Game Changer...

I don't think you have to wait. For example, you could start him in 1954.
