Just lost two more battles as the underdog this time. A 40/60 to a DII and a 30/70 to a low DI. I get that it’s all about the numbers but imaging a recruit in the relay world choosing to go play at a small DII over UConn!
Well first, this goes back to the original advice. If you were on these guys early (and possibly invested a little in the case of the D1 battle, but usually not much), you’d likely have gotten them with very little effort at all. It is not hard at all to beat back lower division schools. Instead of investing 80 AP on your top guy every cycle (which is actually bad advice in most situations, IMO) you could have moved a few handful to 3 or 4 guys like this and had your pick of them. Early AP has huge impact for those recruits, but you have to be willing to “go ugly first.”
Also, it should go without saying, but being in the lead at VH is always better than trying to win from high. I know there are guys who are convinced the whole system is broken and the numbers are flipped or whatever, but they’re not. You’re just in a rut. Your team is stuck in a bad luck stretch. Trying to come from behind isn’t going to do much except spread your chances over more recruits (which isn’t necessarily terrible, depending on your team) and give you less control over who signs (which is pretty bad, IMO).
