Hi kaniac,

my initial thought was to do a full draft, but we quickly realized that this was not in the best interest to get the league filled. Too extensive and the last half is primarily bench players. Ideally, we want to keep the live draft completion inside of about 11-12 days total. First round is off the clock and requires 2-3 days. Then, a day per round on the clock thereafter.

You can open a new team under the standard open league and start doing your research, filling projected spots and start calculating your payroll as you go. You could also map out what you would want your non live draft spots to be- so you have a rough idea how much money to spend in the live draft. But keep in mind that they could get taken in the live draft. You can only fill the remaining spots with undrafted players.

When everyone is getting their teams filled and finalized, we will send out the league number to enter the teams. You just change the league option from open to enter the existing league number and your roster will populate over.

What happens when you realize in round 18 that you're going to run out of cash? You can't join if you are over salary cap.

1) If over the cap, you could choose a less-expensive season of any player you drafted instead.
2) But this is why the draft is proposed to go fewer than 18 rounds :)

Concur with Tom. The live draft is 10 rounds to secure your 12 core players and units. 1 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 2TE, 1OL, 1DL and 1ST. No deviation from meeting those position requirements in the live draft. Out of those 12, you’ll only need to specify the year for the OL, DL and ST. Hence, you have a lot of flexibility on the individual player salaries should you need to rework your initial plan to get under the 75 mil salary cap.

To reiterate, you can switch the years of your live drafted individual players and add any undrafted players to fill your last 11 spots. You can NOT alter the year of OL, DL or ST after the live draft. Once you enter your roster into the league, then your 77 Walter Payton or 15 Gronk and all 23 roster spots are final.

Two other things to mention as we are getting close to starting the draft- where would you prefer to draft? First 9, middle 10-15, or the back end 16-24? I really like this option. You feel like you won’t be stuck with a draft position that you don’t prefer. We use a randomizer for each group to get the draft order. In the event that we have more elections than spots, we’ll take the overage and submit with the next group.

When we start a separate draft thread under football theme leagues (no longer classifieds), we can do our roll call/check-in and each owner can post their draft spot election. I’ll follow up when I have that posted and available.

For the divisions, we will just do an open placement on that. The idea is to space out your division teams the same for all and you can still see what you’ll be up against, but it’s not on either pick before or after you.

1st pick- AFC East
2nd- NFC East
3rd- AFC Central
4th- NFC Central
5th- AFC West
6th- NFC West
and repeat this sequence to 24.

***For the owners with 2 teams, your 2nd team will get the remaining draft spots after everyone else. For the divisions, we’ll ensure the 2 owners have 1 team in each conference (AFC and NFC). We may need to alternate and switch the sequence a few times to accomplish that. We will finalize the divisions with draft order. ***

well, 1 more, but I am very willing to give up my 2nd team if we get more owners who want in.

Just sent another sitemail to past owners-- people who we haven't seen for awhile. Worth a shot. All of them were on the champions list, so I'm guessing they had some enjoyment playing and may want to return. I thought we would get some of the avid draft owners in baseball and basketball to give us a try, but no luck there. Who will be our Mr. Relevant!
