Is there an appeals courts for ridiculous one-sided trades in which a veteran fleeces a newbie?? Asking for a friend...
I'm not going to restrict an owner from making a lopsided trade (I know it's lopsided because TulsaG didn't demand to wait and see that "his guy" was available at #69 before he agreed to make the trade. That never happens.) unless I'm convinced there is collusion that is specifically intended to weaken one team while strengthening another. I do not see collusion in this instance.
I know that Vindex24 was looking to move up in round three even before the very first pick was posted. To me that means he did an assessment and decided that the best players are all selected by early in the third round and he wanted to get three of them. Who knows, maybe that will work. He got some value in the trade and he seemed to believe it was worth the price.
I looked up the stat lines for the players from the last draft chosen with picks #76 and #239. One was a full-time DH who hit .294/.337/.365 and the other was a fulltime 2B who hit .273/.335/.324 So yes, there was a difference. Then I looked at the stat lines of the two pitchers that were selected with picks #50 and #69. 153 IP .270/.298/.413/1.23/4.11. vs 219 IP .308/.350/.402/1.54/4.92 which is a bigger difference. Maybe Vindex24 is right. Let's find out.
