This draft is a disaster for me. They only prep I did was to download the players and organize based on some value. I did not research the complete lack of depth in the FC. Usually in WIS you're pushing bigger guys to smaller positions, this one I'll have to do the opposite.

And I don't like to complain without a recommendation, but I will say I'd bet pretty much everyone would have chosen the option to "trade up" in this draft. It's a definite advantage. Not sure in our format though what you do about it.

I thought this was a 12 round draft. Having the top of the draft start the 6th is definitely an unfair advantage imo. We really need to go 7 rounds instead and eliminate the double picks in round 6.

I agree wholeheartedly with this, but it would need significant support before I would change mid-draft.

As the 11th pick I vote for whatever people think is fair.

Um I was trying hard to trade down and I know one of the best coaches on this site privately told me they thought the bottom of the 1st was the premium position in this format.

I do think people who didn’t see the writing on the wall with the bigs missed the boat though.

I think everyone is stuck in their own silo looking at how much their team sucks and wanting to change the format because they think they got screwed. I am in the middle so I am not affected either way. But I think if you look at the data you can see after four rounds the overall talent seems pretty roundly distributed. In a shallow talent pool like this with limited minutes, salary is a pretty good proxy and you can see that pick number has almost no bearing on how the salary is distributed. This is total team salary for each team after four rounds (using the max salary for each player who has multiple seasons to choose from):
Row Labels Sum of Salary Pick
jhsukow $ 25,421,397 6
Midge $ 24,870,147 3
jethroeg $ 23,748,183 12
dh555 $ 23,161,545 18
Sephy13 $ 23,003,316 10
PBandJ $ 22,901,111 1
24kpyrite $ 22,523,814 14
steelers821 $ 22,366,231 11
ronsouth1 $ 21,945,840 9
benhoidal $ 21,769,890 24
samuelyork93 $ 21,740,457 21
riftonapple $ 21,421,245 22
raggedclaws $ 19,937,638 2
dmcclane $ 19,880,642 19
uptowngbv $ 19,075,857 23
mptrey $ 18,803,121 5
pexetera $ 18,533,401 4
berkelon $ 18,355,159 7
albiband0 $ 17,641,535 15
jcred5 $ 17,610,382 17
ty84moss $ 17,565,345 20
chewy3344 $ 17,359,270 8
BenJoker $ 16,828,067 16
robusk $ 16,306,812 13

Given that, I think it would be grossly unfair to change a format in the middle of a draft. The time for debating and changing rules would have been before the draft started.

Thanks for posting Rob. We won’t change anything for this draft. I do think that the double round is probably unfair and we can change that next season.

I gotta quit spending like Donald Sterling

Really? Well, maybe it's my lack of prep showing what I did not see.

And I'm not suggested changing the draft, just keeping the discussion going on a new draft format.

Re: the bigs, I did the exact same amount of prep as you... filtered out the players, added some sorting. But, I did participate in the 2122 single season draft so I had some recent memory of the general player pool constraints.

That being said, looking at the teams, it looks like my team is one of the weakest so that memory was not that helpful.

I complained some the last two rounds after drafting 24th, 12th, and 16th. Finally getting to pick in a top spot was a good change. At that, my ADP is still 13.25. There could be a more equitable way to make draft positions set, but I should have looked at this before. I think everyone is going to have the same trouble with minutes in this league so I am not certain there are huge advantages, especially with the reverse picking order in round three.

This probably won’t be liked, but the lack of minutes in a single season just to field a team makes me wonder if instead of just drafting from the newest season we should draft from the newest two seasons. Next year we could draft from 22-23 and 23-24, the following year it would be 23-24 and 24-25 and so on. I’m not thrilled with the idea, but I’m also not thrilled with drafting Jabari Smith.

Not one of the top four picks in this draft can play 30 minutes per game.

Average pick time could be good determining factor for pick order
