Tidbits To Help New Owners Topic

I imagine some new owners aren't aware of some information that might be helpful. I wanted to share a few tidbits that I found helpful.

There is a statistical snapshot of all active Worlds. As far as I know, the page doesn't have a direct link anywhere. You have to know the link. World Snapshot

If you wonder how someone knows a specific fact about the game engine, it was probably revealed in a Dev Chat. WifS used to do those for HBD. The link is there under Main -> Developer Chat, but to make it easy you can go here Dev Chat. Good reading and WifS did answer questions that could help to deduce what the game engine is doing or how important ratings might be.

Speaking of the game engine, have you ever wondered what steps it goes through to do what it does? You can find a couple of slide shows on the inputs, engine and outputs. Here are two links that have PowerPoint presentations on the topics.

Outputs

One final piece that is helpful. If you want to search the forums, use your search engine of choice. For example, I know that in the past someone talked about positive plays per season and how they calculated it. If I use google, I would put in the following in the search bar to find the post on the forum.

positive plays per season site:https://www.whatifsports.com/forums/

It leads to several different threads, but I will post this one which summarizes the concept. Defense

If you have any links or helpful information, please add them.

Thank you, my first search purpose is trying to learn how I can be outbid for a free agent when you can’t change the $ offer. I see no trade clause and spring training invites but is there more?

You likely mean milb players, right? If so, there are a few things you can do.
1. Have spots on your 40 man roster available;
2. Have a AAA spot available at the player's position;
3. Offer the player a MLB contract by using the drop down.

On the Dev Chat for 11/9/2009, there is a question on this topic. The response was:

In the 11/3 update, you mention adding tie breakers beyond first contract offered for a FA agent that has been offered the max contract by multiple teams. In the knowledge base and in responses from CS, we have long been told that tie breakers already existed beyond first contract offered. Is this update adding additional tie breakers (and, if so, can you share them) or just fixing logic that hasn't been working as intended? thanks (cmthieme - Hall of Famer - 3:29 PM)

There were tiebreakers previously, the last one we used was time the offer was presented, which obviously didn't cut it. We added two additional tie breakers. The first is the relevant IQs of the coaching staff. Position players will always look at the hitting IQ of the hitting coach and the fielding IQ of the fielding coach. Pitchers will always look at the Pitching IQ of the pitching coach and the bullpen coach. The second tiebreak is ballpark. Pitchers will always want to pitch in a pitchers park and position players will always want to play in a hitters park.

Most helpful! Yes MiLB tlowster. I did not re-sign many coaches so I suspect the IQ of no coach doesn’t help! Thank you for taking the time to research and reply.
