Wee Willie Keeler. Why does the SIM give him 40-50 strikeouts?

Never noticed that. I know they prorate to a full season on the WIS database but that wouldn't explain such an increase. And yes you are correct, Wee Willie Keeler!

Keeler struck out 13 times in 1902 - his worst season for strike outs. Over 19 seasons he struck out 136 times. From 1897 to 1909 MLB.com doesn't list any Strike Outs for Keeler, as if it wasn't recorded but baseball reference has strike outs listed. Maybe WIS estimated those seasons?

For point of reference, Kyle Schwarber struck out 215 times, this year alone to lead the majors.

I haven't had a reason to pull my Baseball Encyclopedia off the shelf in a while (and, yes, I'm coughing from the dust), but I looked Keeler up and they didn't have any strikeouts listed for most of his career, right up to 1910. I don't know when enough data came in for Baseball-Reference to start putting some K totals with batters of that era, but chances are high that they represent some verified data but nowhere near all of it. Just as they have populated Negro Leagues stats with what they do have rather than waiting for a full season's boxes to materialize, I'd imagine they are using what they have.

None of this explains where the sim got its stats from, of course.

I have to give more credit to Joe Sewell now in light of the sketchy statistics for Keeler. (Although, Sewell was drafted)

Sewell's K stats are both legit and insane.

I am so torn on who I should select with my final pick.

Do I pay tribute to WIS legend, Earl Whitehill by selecting him?

Do I try to upgrade my pitching by taking Wilcy Moore? I would, but how to differentiate that I want the PedroCerrano version and not the Schwarze Moore which is ironically, less. Is there a feature in the draft room to accommodate this distinction?

I always find with this level of uncertainty that I should probably select an outfielder that can actually catch a ball, instead of the ones that I currently rostered that have tremendous range to pick up the ball after they drop it. With my final pick - Pete Reiser.

I got to use Earl Whitehill in the Immaculate Grid today --> 0.008%

Well played. My highlight today was a middle column of all guys who were in the same bullpen together.

I'm finding it a lot more difficult figuring out my lineup and pitching in this theme. With guys playing out of position, it's tricky trying to figure out which position makes the most sense. Even when I have both positions rated, is it better to have an A/D- at 1B and B+/A- at 3B or is it better to have a A+/C+ at 1B and B/D+ at 3B? Do I start a lower average (.280) - higher slugging (.600) guy over the higher average (.315) - lower slugging guy (.525)?

Also, with most of my pitching staff in League 1 being SPs, do I set up a series of Tandems with just 2-3 pitchers slotted in the Long Relief / Setup spots, or do I go more conventional with 4-5 pitchers in the relief spots? I've spend over an hour just setting up my first two League 1 teams.

In what may be a sim first, the default starting rotation they put in for me on one team contained exactly zero of the pitchers I actually want in my rotation.

Found this kind of interesting:

My Babe Ruth team has every hitter's primary position as C or OF. But I'm not having to play anybody out of position, with 4 different players each manning an infield spot: Babe Ruth (1B), Edd Roush (2B), Jimmy Sheckard (3B), and Sherry Magee (SS).

I had looked at all those guys as options, actually. Came closest to taking Sheckard.

Conversely, the auto-lineup actually picked the exact lineup, versus RHP and LHP, that I was planning to use. Never happened before.

Mine put 01 Lajoie 8th. I can’t grasp what the programming could possibly be there.
