Historically Bad:

This will be a single season, multi era progressive that draws some features from other progressives that I enjoy playing. The basic premise is that everyone will start with a historically bad team and try to build a winner. These teams will be from different eras but that really won't matter too much as you will see if you keep reading.

The league will have 16 teams. Each owner will get their inaugural squad when they sign up. You call out the franchise you wish to have from the list of available franchises. You will form your initial team by keeping a minimum of 20 players from that historically bad team and then drafting the rest of your squad. The rest of the team will be drafted from a series of rookie players that are randomly drawn from 3 different eras.

Each owner will have 30 total roster spots at their disposal - the 25 man roster and 5 AAA players. The combination of AAA players is up to you: 3 hitters and 2 pitchers, 5 hitters, 5 pitchers, etc.

After all the rosters are set each individual player will progress one season at a time. Clones are possible for the first few seasons but that will work itself out over time.

Rosters:

The initial roster will be comprised of at least 20 players from the team you draft. You have 30 total roster spots at your disposal. There will be no minimum or maximum keepers after season 1 with the exception of the 30 roster spot max. Players on I/R do not count against your roster spots.

Draft:

The first draft order will be determined by random draw and the first draft will snake - 1 to 20, 20 to 1, 1 to 20, 20 to 1, etc. All subsequent drafts will be worst to first with the exception of the division winners. Those teams will occupy the final four draft spots - worst to first.

Draft pool:

The draft pool will populate with Rookies from three randomly chosen years. Example: 1910, 1930, 1950. The draft classes will always be 20 years apart. The Rookie draft pool will progress one year at a time from the originally chosen years until 10 years have passed. Example - 1910 is chosen as one of the first set of years. Year 2 will be 1911. Year 3 will be 1912, etc. until 1919 is reached. Then a new random year will be selected.

The One Twist:

The initial division alignment will be set by random draw. Subsequent seasons will have the divisions aligned just like the draft order - worst to first. So, the division alignments will change every season.

General rules and notes:

Draft tiebreakers - Head to Head, Division Record, Home Wins
Stadium - your choice but must align with a year that is in play
AAA - 5 - AAA players cannot be called up until after 30 league games have been played.
I/R - Yes, unlimited
DH - no DH, either league
Trades - up to 3 seasons in advance for players or picks
Vetos - 12 votes needed
Rule changes - may be proposed by anyone. 15 votes needed to adopt a rule change.
* Commissioner reserves right to close any unintended loopholes without a league vote

Sounds fun and unique, any thoughts to setting the initial draft pool before people sign up? I like playing the old leagues, so 1910-1930-1950 would be very interesting to me. 1960-1980-2000 wouldn’t be an era I enjoy.

Also, can we IR guys from the initial roster, if they aren’t eligible the first season? Seems like we could, just want to confirm.

Win floor to prevent tanking? Can you change stadiums between seasons? What if your stadium is no longer in use after x seasons, do you have to move then? Thanks!

The initial years are intended to be randomly drawn. I guess I can do that at any time.

Only active players on your initial roster.

No win floor. I'm not worried so much about tanking since there will be 3 rookie groups to choose from and not just one.

When your stadium is gone.....feel free to move.

I probably will join as it looks like a fun concept

Only concern with only 20 Awful teams it will be very hard to fill might be better to include all teams that say have a sub .300 winning percentage and it would open it up to more teams including a couple teams from the last decade.

I hear what you are saying. However, I want to try and get the league up and running as is for now. There were a few teams that I intentionally left off the list that were from the recent past for fear of running out of years of play as the league progresses faster than MLB.

So, how do you find the Boston Rustlers?
