I would like to offer to be a Mentor to anyone who is new or wants one. I hadn't actually seen that on the first page until now.

I have a draft schedule posted - see page 1. We start at 5pm Monday.
I tried to also send messages using the message system, but it is hanging up on me right now. I will try again later.

I don't think we should make this modification for the v6 season, but I would suggest having a uniform way to make all the UTIL/DH players eligible (who load with a team) starting with v7. Maybe we should just agree they always count as a OF slot, where they will have less of an effect on roster balancing. They could still play wherever WIS thinks they are eligble beyond the OF - just treat as OF for roster purposes.

They were not really an issue in the early years, but in the 1970s they eat a considerable number of a team's total AB, so they are alread skewing the process to a major extent.

Folks, this came up in the last draft. We did have a decision that worked out, but I wonder if anything should be decided on this point ermocito raised in that discussion before we start picking.

I would vote we allow them as an OF.

I'll second that.

Kentol hits the clock at 5pm (3 hours), so deciding before that is good.
If you have feedback for or against, try to get it in the next two hours (before 4pm).
So far, the motion has 3 favoring it and I don't anticipate a quorum in the short time span, so majority of replies instead.

Just as an example, the Tigers' Rusty Staub has 695 PA all as a DH. He has no fielding ratings at all. If we support this rule, would he be eligible to be a team's OF only since the rules do say currently that you can only start a game somewhere you have a WIS rating.

Great question.

I would say under the proposal he could play in the OF but nowhere else, because he was treated as OF for the purposes of roster designation.

If he had played any games at other positions, he would be eligible to play at those but would still COUNT as OF for the original roster purpose.

I also vote that we allow DH players as OF only

Ruling on the UTIL/DH motion, since we are now past 4pm.

For v7 of this league, players with UTIL/DH as their primary designation will be treated as if they had OF as their primary designation.
They can be played as OF for roster and daily purposes.
If such a player qualifies in WIS for another position, they will count as OF for roster purposes but may start at other qualifying positions as well.

I will move this to the main post above as well - please help remind future commish to remove it later if we decide we didn't like it.

For clarification, let's look at 1977 Brewers' Ken McMullen. He appears as UTIL. He has WIS ratings at 1B and 3B.

So by this ruling, he can only be drafted as an OF but he can start games during the season at 1B, 3B or OF even though he has no OF rating.

Is that correct?

Sorry, late to this discussion. Why not just make a DH like a wild card that can be subbed for any position that they have a rating for? Why just at OF?
