ROUND SEVEN: The Championship Round! Topic

The Championship Round!

The National League will obviously be the NLE, NLC and NLW as they currently look today. The American League – ditto. Each division will consist only of players who played for one of those five teams during the years 1998 – 2023. EDIT: Only the Cardinals, Cubs, Brewers, Pirates and Reds can be picked for the N.L. Central teams. No Astros can be picked to play in the N.L. Central. For the A.L. West with the Astros – when you do your search for all available players in the A.L. West, you’ll have to search for A.L. West AND the Houston Astros. This will give you all the Astros players from 1998 through 2012 as well as the ones from 2013 to 2023. Also, you have to include the "Los Angeles Angels" to the search since, for some reason, the Angels from the most recent seasons aren't coming up under the A.L. West.

Starting with the Top Dog (when it comes to W’s) from Round SIX, we’ll just go in order where owners will pick which division they want to be in. At that time, the owner will also select which draft position he wants in that division (i.e., first, second, third or fourth, etc.). Once all 24 owners know which division they’re in, we’ll set up six different draft boards – one for each division, and track each draft there. Once all of the draft boards are set up, we’ll give the customary 24-hour period where if someone in a division wants to switch draft spots with one of the other three he’s drafting against, he can make his request.

All players in each draft are exclusive. Once Pedro Martinez is off the board in the A.L. East, no one else in the A.L. East can have any season of his. However, he’s also going to be available in the N.L. East with his 2005 season. The drafts will be run snake style (i.e., 1-4, 4-1, 1-4, etc.)

FYI: It doesn't look like the recent few years of Los Angeles Angels come up when you do an AL West search either, so I suggest adding those.

Yeah, that's odd. Okay, I'll change the above post to include them. Thanks for pointing that out...

I will kick things off. I am fairly confident that this is not the correct choice for first pick overall, as the goal should be to give myself the biggest advantage over the rest of my division and the league. But I do think that this is the funnest pick, so I will go with that. Good luck everyone!

NL West - Pick #1

I struggled with this selection. Narrowed it down to three choices, one in the AL, two in the NL. If the goal were to be an above-500 team in order to move on to the next round, I'd go into the NL. But since the goal is to make the playoffs and win the title, I have to go with the best leverage pick...

1st pick in the AL East.

Just fyi, I’ll probably make my pick this evening. I can’t really decide and need to get some sleep from working a couple of unexpected back-back night shifts so no can think straight.

I actually tried to start doing some research, and I can't see that I'm likely to make any better a pick that way.

With the 7th overall pick, you will either get a shot as the first person in a division, or else the 2nd person in any division you want. Not sure which is the better option.
12/27/2023 2:44 PM
Me either! Chances are if any division is still unoccupied it's for a really good reason.
12/27/2023 3:19 PM
Sorry for the delay. I have come to the conclusion that there is no right answer here, no matter how much sleep I do get, or how much research is done.
I’ll just go with first selection with the NL East and move on.
12/28/2023 5:14 AM
I agree with that. I think besides the first 2 picks, no spot is really any better than any other, it'll just come down to personal preference.

NL Central
Pick #1
12/28/2023 10:06 PM
I'll take the 1st off the wall pick and go pick 4 in the NL West

are stadiums drafted and exclusive?
