Forgive my Celtics/NBA rant for a second, but I have to vent somewhere. The NBA isabunchofpussies these days. Tatum is going for a dunk and some nobody named Cam Whitmore fouls him on the arm and Tatum takes a bad fall and there's no call. Fine. Tatum is complaining to the ref, gets his second T and is tossed out. As Tatum is leaving the floor Whitmore is following him off the court clapping and giving the finger swirl to check the reply. That was several minutes ago and there is no retaliation. Someone needs to club that B like a baby seal. Where have the Charles Oakley days gone - bunch of softies. Ridiculous
Somebody named Cam Whitmore is a future all-star and key member of the World Champion Houston Rockets. He was the most slept on member of this past draft class.

Ben’s 3rd best team is T4 overall that has to be the most succesful 3rd team ever.

Also I feel I have 3 really good teams and I can potential win 3 divisions. Only 1 of my teams is in both of those categories which I must admit is very lucky.

In the words of John Chaney "Send in the goons" RIP Coach. He should have been sent out on a stretcher. Someone at the end of the bench should have taken him out immediately. Tatum makes enough to pay his fine.

Not even close. There was a season where a coach had the best record in three worlds, the second best record in the fourth world and the third best record in the fifth world.

Looks like my teams decided to stop trying to win games at the 68 game mark of the season. Sweet. Fml.

****. The teams I need to win are not the teams that are winning.

Is this measuring two different things?

Ahh okay. I misunderstood the post. Still, that same team had the three best records in the league overall (no ties) so I guess the point still stands.

Some stuff I really need to happen isn't happening. FML.

Terrible in division performances from my teams that were set up well going into the last 10 games.

on the bright side I got 4 teams to at least .500 for the first time. I got 2 50 win teams for the first time and my first ever 60 win team.

Right before Division play, I had an outside but still legitimate shot to get all five teams in, winning one division and having the #3 conference seed in two other, which was, after my start, pretty damn amazing. Then, well, division play happened. Looks like only making 2 in, outside shot at a third, at this point. I know everybody has their frustrations, but this combined with last season's disappointment really feels like a giant punch to the nuts.

Well, as one of only 8 people that has been in every season of Savage, it really sucks that the reason I won't be able to continue is because I suck.

My method for accounting for SoS is to assign a replacement level score to each division based on that division's performance, so that a division that kicks *** against other divisions gets a higher score than another division, a conference that kicks *** against the other conference gets a higher score than the other conference. I then calculate how tough each division/conference would have had been in summation if I replaced the respective coach in each of their divisions with their replacement level counterpart. I retabulate the overall totals and sum it all up. After I get the totals I break them down into division averages to make them more digestible.

I also calculate the raw opponent winning percentage of each coach's opponents as well as their raw sums of division/conf scores but both of those are made noisy by their own performance. After 13 seasons the current method is by far the best I have seen and in going back to past seasons it has always passed the eye test. This is superior to other methods like replacing them with a .500 team because that creates a lot of distortion in the numbers that I won't go so far into the weeds on.

Almost always the hard majority of the teams are within a standard deviation of the mean. With that said, I will post the findings below. The second column represents how many games under .500 the adjusted average division for each coach is. For this particular season every coach is within a standard deviation of the mean totals except for the top 3 and the bottom 3. I have evolved the model over time so I don't have all the historical numbers handy to post at the moment. As far as I can tell, the easiest draw this time around is the easiest draw in Savage history (I have no record of a team two standard deviations away besides this one). The hardest draw this time around is one of the hardest ever but there are a few draws that have been slightly harder.
