Teammate Chain Twist: DRAFT Thread Topic

I sitemailed the next three owners. Depending on which time zones they are in, we might still get another pick or two in today.

Reminder: The 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, and 1961 Cleveland Indians teams are all off the board now.

I have the starting team for Rd 12 queued up. I am sitemailing it to rmarksduke in case I am not at my computer when Ronthegenius picks.

This draft style seems to depend on each of us doing our part to make our picks as soon as possible as a courtesy to each other. Since we can’t provide a short list to anyone to make proxy picks, we are inevitably going to be at the mercy of the person currently up.
Aside from the big overnight gaps, most of us are picking in under an hour, and there are a couple savages around 30 minutes. However, there are some of us pushing almost a 2 hour average to make a pick.
In a vacuum , that doesn’t seem bad at all. But I thought we had a hard deadline for someone (can’t remember who or the reason). I saw in a post that we had to get through 1 round per day to be ok. I foresee these remaining rounds as being taking longer because of so many seasons becoming blacklisted. People might be trial and error more to try and use as much cap as possible efficiently, or view others potential lineup to give them a team whose best players play a position they already have filled to really “screw your neighbor”. These strategies are legitimate and seem to be the fun part of why we or at least I joined this draft league.
Having said all that, I do not see a way of forcing things to speed up. Do you set a time limit and get skipped if you don’t pick within that amount of time. Or at least check in to say you are in the process of making a pick? Anyway, I don’t care for myself, I was just going by what I thought the commissioner said.

keep up the good work and good luck to all.

"Do you set a time limit and get skipped if you don’t pick within that amount of time?"

Unfortunately this can't work for this format, since picks are dependent on what the person before you does.

Pacing is going fine. Our goal is to finish the draft by Feb 22, which we are comfortably on target to achieve. Today will be Day 12 of the draft, and we should be able to start Round 12 soon. So at this rate, the draft should finish sometime around Feb 17-18.

Let’s continue to be patient. If the situation becomes dire, we can reassess our options.

Good points. One thing I have noticed is the back half of the draft moves a lot slower than the front half. ;-)

Is there a plan/penalty in place if people get to the end of the draft and can't fit under the cap? For example, let's say you get down to your last two picks with $500K left, but based on players/teams already used, you can't draft any >$250K players.

From the original post:

If your roster is over the cap at the end of the draft, I will insist that you modify your roster with $200K players to get under the cap in the fewest moves possible. So if you end the draft $3M over the cap and you have a relief ace who costs $3.2M, surprise, your closer is now a $200K mop.

Don't know how I missed that. Thanks.

Thursday maybe a problem for me. I have been called for jury duty. In my previous time on jury duty there have been plenty of breaks. So if that is the case this time I may have a long delay between breaks but I should be able to make my pick. I doubt they will pick an old crotchety codger like me from the jury pool but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Rest assured I will not hold up the draft for more than a couple of hours. My pick may not even come up during that time span.
