So I know this kind of draft makes it hard to have a proxy draft on your behalf, since you can't send someone a list of potential picks until you know the team that you've been dealt. But I do think that we may need some mechanism to avoid prolonged delays in order to finish the draft on time.
My proposal moving forward will be that if your pick is approaching and you know you are going to be unable to pick for an extended period of time (say 3 hours or more between 9a-9p), I will ask that you coordinate with another owner and grant him "power of draft attorney" to pick on your behalf. This owner should ideally be someone who picks several picks away in the draft order so that there is no meaningful conflict of interest.
Since you cannot give this owner instructions regarding specific players, I will suggest that you provide more general guidance, such as:
- "I still need a starting 2B (no more than $5M) and another starting pitcher (at least 150 innings, no more than $6M). If you can't find either one, just give me a relief season with a WHIP under 1.00 or the cheapest bench player you can find."
I understand that this isn't ideal, but it seems like it may be necessary if we're going to finish by February 22. Thanks all!
