Yes and No

WIS calls him Willard. Baseball-Reference calls him William.

Let’s just agree I took Will Brown, the crappy back-up catcher

Yeah, definitely wish I would have known I'd end up with such good choices this late in the draft.

I've got to leave in about 15 minutes to hang out with my wife and a couple of friends. I don't know how long I'll be gone but I think it will be at least 5-6 hours and maybe more. If I have an opportunity to look over players while I am out then I'll do that, but that is probably doubtful.

I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

Friendly reminder that the following players from the 1891 Boston Reds are already off the board:
  • Duke Farrell
  • George Haddock
  • Hugh Duffy

Think he should be back in the next hour or so.

So I know this kind of draft makes it hard to have a proxy draft on your behalf, since you can't send someone a list of potential picks until you know the team that you've been dealt. But I do think that we may need some mechanism to avoid prolonged delays in order to finish the draft on time.

My proposal moving forward will be that if your pick is approaching and you know you are going to be unable to pick for an extended period of time (say 3 hours or more between 9a-9p), I will ask that you coordinate with another owner and grant him "power of draft attorney" to pick on your behalf. This owner should ideally be someone who picks several picks away in the draft order so that there is no meaningful conflict of interest.

Since you cannot give this owner instructions regarding specific players, I will suggest that you provide more general guidance, such as:
  • "I still need a starting 2B (no more than $5M) and another starting pitcher (at least 150 innings, no more than $6M). If you can't find either one, just give me a relief season with a WHIP under 1.00 or the cheapest bench player you can find."
I understand that this isn't ideal, but it seems like it may be necessary if we're going to finish by February 22. Thanks all!
