Obviously, with this DEP draft, there is a plethora of talented players available. Some really great players are being taken very late in the draft or not at all. This got me thinking. I have an interesting experiment that would be fun to try in a future version of DEP.
If one predetermined person (previous year's champ, for example) were not allowed to take any players until round X, but then be allowed to fill his entire 25 man roster before round X+1, would that team be competitive? The big question is what should X be? My first thought is X = round 10. So 230 players would get selected (23 teams x 10 rounds), then the champ would select his roster from the remaining players, then the draft would proceed as normal, with the other 23 teams completing the draft.
We could modify X the following year, based on how well the team did.
If that team won the title, X is increased by 3
If that team made the playoffs, X is increased by 1
If that team ended around .500, X stays the same
If that team lost 85+ games, X is decreased by 1
