PReevews - you can throw dagger # 2 at my 79 Chicago White Sox.

Beernoser - Say goodbye to Ed Farmer.

Not a lot of good options from the White Sox, but they do offer a great reliever.
You weren't going to use the SP at all because you have much better options elsewhere. But your RP is pretty awful outside of that. Enjoy!

Some how I had j-willis taking the 49 Giants for his 4t round pick. I see he just took the 29 Senators.

That makes me go back to the drawing board.

After your final team is posted, I will backchannel with the league code (or to clarify if any changes are needed).

The biggest problem, historically, is using a player that WIS searches reveal but who is not on the formal roster. Sometimes the player is valid but the stats/salary are wrong because they switched teams during the season. The spreadsheet (linked from page 1) has reduced those errors a lot, but having WIS load the full team gets you the only valid version of your player pool.

You can play someone anywhere where they have a WIS rating for defense but you need to have exactly 10xP, 5xOF (inc UTIL), 2x each of C-1B-2B-3B-SS - all as measured by their primary position in WIS.

I considered the 79 Astros with my first pick but decided I’d like them a lot less if Richard got daggered. I see you managed to get him through.

3dayrotation has the 79 Reds, 69 Expos, 69 Red Sox, and the 29 Yankees.

He has plenty of hitting and little pitching.

I looked at 3 potential daggers.

2B - could dagger his cheapest backup and cost him some money

SS - he has a bunch of crappy options along with Dave Concepcion ($5.6) or Rico Petrocelli ($9.1). If I dagger Dave he would have to spend 10 mil or have a real crappy platoon.

SP - he really has only one really good SP - that is Tom Seaver. Everyone else is pretty bad. If I dagger Tom he will have bad pitching but can afford great hitting.

Ultimately I decided he has plenty of hitting options so we should crush his pitching staff.

So… say goodbye to P - Tom Seaver

also say goodbye to Fenway Park

dagger for jwillis

As usual I've overthunk this and came up with an odd answer.

Dagger falls on Lou Whitaker (2B) 1979 Tigers

ok, kentol, here we go.
C: you'll want Mickey Cochrane from the 29 A's. If I dagger him, you've got 306 ABs from a good hitting, bad fielding Spud Davis and not much else. Ok, option 1.
1b: you've got 3 studs but only 1 cheap backup. If I dagger the backup, you'll have to roster a minimum of nearly 7 million at 1b though Foxx is a candidate at 3b (though with stone hands) and Fiore can play OF. ok, we're getting warm.
2b: Fresco Thompson is your best option by far. dagger him and you'd roster a 9 hole hitter at 2b.
SS: you have a few options and your cheapest guy is 1.4 million so let's not dagger him and force you to roster him.
3b: Pinky Whitney is your best option and the drop off is fair so, he's an option.
OF: Al Simmons, Chuck Klein and Lefty O'Doul! wow, you'd score runs with these 3. Simmons and O'Doul are around 10 million each and hard to roster so Klein is the obvious choice if I want to go that route...

...but it's all about the pitching. the A's give you Walberg and Grove at SP. The Braves and Phils staffs are generally terrible. It's the Royals that give you 3 or 4 solid arms. it comes down to Klein vs Wally Bunker, the best value of the KC arms. It's a drop in the bucket given your explosive offense but let's say adios to SP Wally Bunker and Braves Field, your best pitchers park. Let's score some runs!

redceped - for the 2nd dagger of my Mantleless ship of fools, take your best shot at the 1969 Chicago White Sox.
Challenge accepted, midknight!

So let's start with White Sox pitching. They've got a handful of middling relievers. I can't hurt you by taking any of them away. They have a couple SP who have had much better seasons in Horlen and John, and you might well have to use one of them because you aren't deep in rotation arms. But I'm not going to dagger guys with ERC# approaching 4.00.

Among hitters, the only places a White Sox player looks like someone you'd really want to use are at 3B with Bill Melton and in your much-weakened OF with Carlos May. The other best uses for White Sox, just as we see now in 2024, are hard to find. There's none I could take away who create a position without a cheap backup either. You did well to protect your other teams in that regard.

It seems to me the guy you'd miss the most is Carlos May. This will remove your top two offensive outfielders, and the dropoff is pretty significant. I really hope he isn't your second favorite player of all time. I'd feel a little bad. Just a little, though.

hey Ribbentrop.

trying to decide between a few builds. you can help me decide by daggering one of my 69 expos.
