Lots of moving parts on this team, more so than any previously. Catcher, first and second base will be platoons/tandems. Went cheap at catcher with part timers Fisk and Price. Murphy platoons with McCovey at first and Dale can also catch. Couldn't resist his 21 homers in 450 ab. Second will be a platoon with McAuliffe and Strain/Madlock.
Awesome outfield with Rice, Lynn and Matthews. This is the core of the team. They combined for 105 homers and Lynn is an elite defender. Burleson and Evans are solid on left side of infield.
Daggering my planned ace in Denny Mclain hurt. In hindsight I probably should have offered the Giants for my second dagger but was afraid to lose my best reliever in Minton. Instead I lost innings eater Phil Niekro. Lolich becomes the ace with Eck close behind. Wilson and Solomon slot in third and fourth. Rainey and Curtis spot start/long relief. Burgmeier, McLaughlin, Minton set up a part time closer McMahon.
Candlestick, my only pitchers park was daggered so we will play in Tiger Stadium. Hopefully my staff can keep it in the park as my offense hits it out. Over 200 real life homers, we'll see how it plays out.

Preeves has way too much depth and flexibility among positional players for any dagger to make much of a dent. Maybe Peewee Reese, but I'm not gonna dagger a guy who logged 782 plate appearances. If you wanna pay for 150 more PAs than you really need, then be my guest.

So rather than bother playing that game, I'm gonna make this really simple:

Harvey Haddix is the best pitcher you've got on an inning-for-inning basis. Let's cross him off your list.

And in case you were planning on using Braves Field to ease the burden on your pitching staff... no, you won't be.

I am daggering Seay00 there is alot of ways you could go with the 2nd dagger
Jerry Priddy is your best 2b but not great defensively
Roy Sievers Best offensive player but not nearly as good as Mays or Aaron
Lollar or Moss a decent tandem but they cancel each other out,
Bob Dillinger good hitter but probably not being used with Mathews.

So that brings me to OF Al Zarilla out of all the players I Know he was absolutely going to be on your team at 263,487 you do have multiple OF to replace him under 800,000 but the really issue is to find cheap players to fill your 6 Browns slots when the Browns have 3 position players in the 1 Millon dollar range and your cheapest pitcher is over 1 million. So its an easy decision to say good bye to Zarilla.

kentol can dagger my 39 Browns

kentol, you've got an interesting team. Basically all of your pitching is going to have to come from the 1929 Athletics and the 1969 Royals.

The other problem you have is that you've got too many superstars. You've got a ton of great players but not enough cap to roster them all.

I looked at Fresco Thomas and Pinky Whitney and Chuck Klein as potential daggers, but in every case, it felt like I might actually be doing you a favor. If I take one of them away, it just frees up salary that you can reallocate elsewhere.

So instead I'm going to do something else and dagger "shortstop" Bernie Friberg. Because the thing is... Friberg isn't really a shortstop. He's an outfielder, and a good one at that (A/B defense). And looking at your player pool, it feels like you might try to save yourself some cash by eschewing an actual backup at SS (Thevenow for $1.4M or Boley for $1.6) and instead rostering Friberg but making him an everyday outfielder, then pocketing the cash and drafting someone cheap at the third outfield spot. You've got plenty of cheap and decent backup outfield types, so it isn't hard to imagine you using Cy Williams, Johnny Cooney, and Hawk Taylor or Heinie Mueller alongside Friberg and two full-time OFs.

Maybe you planned to eat the salary for Thevenow in the first place, but hopefully I just made the easier decision for you.

Vilefileman, for my second dagger you may strike at the 69 Indians. We’ve already lost the only good player they had.
vilefileman, maybe you missed this with all the recent posts.

Ribbentrop, say goodbye to George Brett and Sportsman Park.

Clayton, you can dagger my 79 Athletics.
8/8/2024 10:00 PM
dcpeterso those 39 Bees don't offer much help to your roster construction. Some cheap backups and one decent hitter in Max West and a usable pitcher in Lou Fette. I can see why you offered them up for dagger #2.

Pitching will be harder to come by (I know, I lost two ace starters) so say goodbye to Lou Fette.
