Franchise Draft 1969-2024 Topic

This is the first draft I've done that I have not enjoyed. Part of it is no clock. But mostly the 24 mini drafts narrowing down the selections. There is a lot of randomness with the different franchises and order we select that from those franchises which can be advantage. In my situation, the Tigers are not ideal for 2 picks. I follow Ron every round except the Tigers. Ron has taken my choice 75% of the rounds including the beginning rounds with later picks. We obviously think alike, but I never have a chance to pick before Ron like you would in a natural draft that goes back and forth. Kudos to Ron, but no fun for me!

I'm enjoying this draft a lot more than I expected to. We do get some delays but also a lot of flurries. I will wait until the end of the draft to decide how I felt about adding the clock.
Trying to plan for who I expect to fall how far makes it interesting. I think I got some useful players in the rounds where I drafted late, but the middle rounds are the ones that will be make or break for me. I hope someone remembers to paste final regular season records at the end so that we can see if draft order was a controlling factor or not.
In the future there might be some ways to "snake" parts of the draft and have divisions draft close to the same draft positions for a more balanced experience. I will think more about that. I am definitely ready to sign up for different versions of this league concept going forward.

I'd like to see this theme run with the rounds being based on draft pick, instead of franchise.

Round 1, everybody takes their 2 players from their randomly assigned franchise.
Round 2, everybody takes their player from their 2nd franchise assigned.
Etc.

This way, everybody gets to draft their studs early, and can then fill in the end of the roster with cheaper players from the franchises they got assigned 22nd, 23rd, 24th. Makes way more sense and is fairer to everybody.
If fairness is the goal, absolutely.

But I think one element that makes this fun is strategy. Do you stick to a plan and assume you'll get the players you want from each subsequent franchise? Or do you gamble and take a player now, and take a lesser player from your double-dip franchise to maximize your roster? In the current format, you could potentially see a player unexpectedly drop to you due to the remaining needs of those ahead of you. In your suggested approach, this is unlikely to happen.

There are pros and cons to each approach.
Totally agree with this. Yes do I wish I could have more favorable teams when I am picking earlier. But this is fun because of the strategy needed to take chances on when to fill you position needs. It is not a cookie cutter theme which is what I like although my team will probably be terrible.

I agree with a lot of your comments regarding the draft. Of course playing it out in my head is always different to how it actually works out. Hindsight is always 20/20. I do now see that the draft format is definitely a much easier puzzle for those with the first few picks and much harder for those who start in the middle. I like schwarze's idea on format.

I also regret not starting us off with a clock. Yes we've made it through about a round a day overall, but usually that's because quite a few guys make their pick in a matter of minutes, while a few may take hours to check in. It would be more fair for everyone to have the same time allotments and also know exactly when they will pick each day.

Overall I am ready for another iteration of this as long as I am not running it LOL..

In some future draft league that I run, I will experiment with a "chess clock" concept. If you use up all your time in the first 2-3 rounds, your clock runs out and you could be skipped almost immediately (or maybe get something nominal like 5 minutes). It rewards those who draft with pace and penalizes those who are holding things up over and over.

Ultimately it's your league. We all have our thoughts and suggestions, but we all signed up knowing the format. You've done a good job with it.

Drafts are always a crapshoot. People love it if they’re the first pack, be upset if you’re the last. When you sign up, it’s just a crapshoot. I’m dead smack in the middle and I feel like I’m of a disadvantage, but that’s just the way it goes. To be getting a double pick with Dodgers or Red Sox, the Yankees or Astros, but I got stuck with the twins and that’s, just the way it goes Husker I think you’re running a great draft and it’s fun because it’s it’s different and it’s new You just have to know when you need to pick your cheaper players and pick your more expensive players when you do have that chance?

Honestly, the Twins are one of the better franchises to have the top pick for. After the top 5-6, it really drops off IMO.
