Can’t afford all arbitration due to missed budgets Topic

So what happens if I can’t afford all my arb cases? Do they release players?

I missed budgets and that really screwed me

Once your player payroll is exhausted, whatever arb cases are remaining will steal from another budget category (I think medical or training). I would recommend releasing whatever arb-eligible players you don't want in order to mitigate the damage. You can also transfer money from the prospect and coaches budgets to player payroll, but you will suffer the 50% transfer penalty.

They raised my budget by 8m to sign the remaining 3 guys (who I wanted to keep). Lowered my prospect budget by 2, coaching by 1, college by 2, HS by 1, training by 1, and medical by 1.

I don’t have any FA needs so despite really screwing up by missing budgets, I won’t really be affected tooooo much. My prospect budget is now 4m which sucks. Surprised that was lowered below 6m.

Good to hear. I think the theory is to spread the budget pain out so as not to overly affect any one area. Now you are just going to have to make sure you are able to sign enough draft picks (I think the minimum required to sign is 16).

There isn't a minimum.
You don't have to sign a single one of them, providing you already have enough players in Rookie league.

From the transfer budget page: You must maintain at least $6M in your prospect budget or sign 15 prospects from your amateur draft.

This only happened to me once and it screwed me royally because I had a really good player going into third year arb. I couldn’t extend him so had to wait until he was auto arbed. Then he was ****** and went to FA the next season.

If your Rookie level is adequately filled, you don't need either of these requirements.

If you're at the Arb stage you prolly have plenty of time to trade away some players to lower Payroll, then transfer that savings into Prospect pool, albeit with the penalty.

There is a way to not have the player go to free agency the next season. After the system auto arb'd him. You send him to the minors for the whole season. The next off-season he will not have the ability to go to free agency and you can extend him. Of course it also depends on whether his patience is high enough so his ratings don't drop when he is demoted.
