Alright. Sorry, guys. I'm getting distracted by real life stuff. The Quarterfinals opened up today (well actually five days ago but they are being posted today.)
The #1 seed SwampDragons United got things going in Canada when #9 Merchiston FC flew into town. A fairly quiet first half got lively in the final minute when both teams knocked one home. Benecroft Noblit hit a shot through Merchiston goalie Jean-Martin Swerts to get the Dragons on the board but Math Boyes picked up a rebound that Dragons goalie Jaxon Hebert saved but couldn't clear and volleyed a shot that easily found the corner to make the score 1-1 at halftime.
The 2nd half started the way the first half ended, with a quick goal by Merchiston midfielder, once again Math Boyles, to make it 2-1 for the Scottish club, Despite numerous shot by both clubs, the game ended as a 2-1 Merchiston victory. The return game was in the evening at Merchiston's home park in Scotland. 47,000+ came to watch and were not disappointed. The Dragons immediately tied the aggregate at 2-2 with a nifty piece of dribbling and an even better scoring touch by Golden Toe leader Jerrad Forko . The game remained this way until a single defensive lapse cost the Dragons the semifinals as Giovanni Léonard found himself completely unmarked and knocked in an easily header. That score game Merchiston the 3-2 lead and they packed it in tight to secure the series with a 1-1 game draw and a 3-2 aggregate, ending a great tournament run by Swamp U.
In the other action tonight, #6 VB Hibernian hit the road against #7 Southeast Indiana Football Club and cushed the American squad. Tedric Frame scored four times as Hibs raced out to a 4-0 lead before Indiana veteran forward Robbie Harley scored a pair of goals to avoid the shutout. Hibs added three more tallies before the end of the game to take a massive 7-2 road win. Frame's output moves him into solo 2nd with 9 goals in the books and, since leader Jerrad Forko of Swamp U has been eliminated, becomes the highest remaining goal scorer in the race for that prestigious award., although Forko can still win the Golden Toe if nobody surpasses him.
Two games on the 14th as well as the first Bums Semi.
