Sometimes I have to travel for work, and on those days, even a proxy would be difficult. I think I'm usually one of the most time efficient drafters, but if the draft happens to be on a day when I am traveling, I'd be SoL.

I assume the 3 hour rule doesn't apply overnight and only applies between say 8am and 10pm. So if the person before you picks at 3am... you can't be skipped at 6am. Instead, you have until 11am (8am + 3) to pick before being skipped? Is that how it will work?

Yes pex that's pretty much it. We'll use the previous draft hours (10 am to 10 pm). No owner can be skipped during those hours. After ten pm, it's same as always...everyone keeps picking IN ORDER/NO SKIPS until it gets too late for picks to come in.

This is kinda a trial run to see if it works well. If it doesn't and too many owners get all butthurt, we can go back to a clock, but I'm hoping we don't need to do that. Texting will be very impoirtant, and I am really hoping that owners aren't all freaky protective of their privacy and **** and withhold their cell numbers. It is not that hard to sitemail 3 owners and say "I'm heading out to run errands, please text me when I am up or on deck"

Poddy, I am not going to put you on the sign up list. At least right now. I'd like to see if we can fill this without you first, since you are one of the owners who refuses to use proxy lists and we often have to wait for your picks for hours. Without a clock, I need dependable owners who pay pretty close attention and/or use proxy lists. Perhaps if we get down to the end and it's been a few days with no signups, I'll put you on the list if you promise to proxy and/pr be ready to make your picks.

Same goes for you booda. With you being in a far different time zone, and you rarely using proxies, we can't afford to wait for your picks every round. I'm gonna leave you off the list for now.

We are just going to try something new Jr. They stopped using draft clock time slots in Savage draft leagues, and Midge's Funk 52 and it works quite well. You just need owners who follow the draft and attempt to pay attention and be ready when their turn comes up.

What happens with a draft clock is that 8-12 owners are on top of things and pick when they are up, and then we get ahead of the draft clock by three or four hours. Then, ONE owner has planned that they will be picking at say 5 pm and they are actually up to pick at 1 pm. So then the draft STOPS for FOUR hours while we wait for that owner. Trying it this way will hopefully avoid those long waiting periods. We are going to try it and see.

Any time you make major changes like this, you are going to lose some owners and gain back some owners who have left the league BECAUSE of those long delays. I'm prepared for that. That is why I said to BE PATIENT as this may take longer to fill this time.

The only reason we don’t need a clock in savage, is because that nucleus of owners are all super fast drafters who are almost all on discord getting immediate messaging. There’s no trades allowed so people might feel safer proxying, and the expectation is to go fast.

other leagues like this DDL have more casual owners, perhaps they don’t have the spreadsheets or tools that others have, or they participate in this game of entertainment differently than others. I like trying to mix things up but I hope this decision doesn’t make some feel alienated. The DDL is getting harder to fill, and I would hate for this league to fade into obscurity.

I agree with Gerryred that the clock was a strength to at least make sure the entire draft didn’t go stagnant all day.

I do agree with Amerk’s decision to use the 3 hour clock because I like faster drafts.
