I decided to take a look at how my round 2 teams are doing, while also reviewing each team's mini-draft free agent.

League 1
Round 1 Record: 110-52 (Won World Series)
Round 2 Record: 60-63
Free Agent: 1902 Bill Bernhard
Bernhard has pitched in 50 games, starting 11. He is 12-12 and 7/10 in saves. His 5.48 ERA is ranked 17th among eligible NL players (the AL pitchers are way better and dominate the leaderboard). He's still only about an average pitcher on my team. I expected more. Grade: C

League 2
Round 1 Record: 92-70 (Lost in LCS)
Round 2 Record: 69-54
Free Agent: 1914 Dutch Leonard
I've been using Dutch solely as a RP. He has pitched in 67 games (all in relief), has a 10-9 record and is 20/25 in saves. His 4.06 ERA is 7th best in the A.L. I may eventually give him a few starts. Grade: B+

Round 1 Record: 93-69 (Missed playoffs by 2 games)
Round 2 Record: 35-37
Free Agent: 1925 Dolf Luque
I've been using Luque mostly as a RP. He's pitched in 41 games (5 starts), has a 6-5 record and is 7/10 in saves. His 6.08 ERA ranks 11th in the N.L. I want to start him more often, but the rest of my bullpen is awful (four of five pitchers with ERAs over 8.00). Grade: B

League 4
Round 1 Record: 93-69 (Lost in World Series in 7 games)
Round 2 Record: 34-38
Free Agent: 1937 Lefty Gomez
Gomez has been mostly terrible, 6-10, 6.40 ERA in 20 starts. The SP he replaced (Lon Warneke) has a 5.55 ERA in mostly mop-up duty. Maybe I need to move him to the bullpen and start Warneke. Grade: D

League 5
Round 1 Record: 101-61 (Won World Series)
Round 2 Record: 9-9
Free Agent: 1946 Bob Feller
Feller has a 7.90 ERA in 6 starts fter a terrible start. He's actually *lowered* his ERA in 3 straight starts. He replaced Robin Roberts as a SP. Roberts has 9.12 ERA in 11 relief appearances, so I guess that's an upgrade. Grade: C

League 6
Round 1 Record: 84-78 (Missed playoffs)
Round 2 Record: 10-8
Free Agent: 1966 Sandy Koufax
In the first five mini-drafts, I was always picking last or near last. This was the first early (top 4) pick I've had. Koufax has been disappointing. He is 2-2, with a 5.85 ERA (the worst ERA among my 4 SPs in a pitching-dominant era). It sure would be nice to have a free agent actually do well for me. Not a single one of the first six has been worthy of an "A" grade... That's part of the reason my round 2 teams have mostly sucked (relative to their round 1 performance). Grade: C+
