The 1981 Reset Progressive League has begun it's inaugural draft and we are currently sitting at the top of Round 9.
We had one owner who joined on the condition of having two teams. In the end, things did not work out between the league and this owner and we are going our separate ways.
First of all, a rundown of the league concept and rules. In the first reply I will post the available teams as they stand through 8 rounds.
WHAT IF, instead of starting the 1981 season and going on strike, the big leagues simply dissolved and reset itself as a 16 team league?
Every 1981 player is a free agent, 16 owners get to rebuild baseball from the ground up and progress from there.
A 26 round draft is conducted, in which each owner selects 25 players and one ballpark/franchise (which must be one that was available in real life in 1981). At the completion of the 26 rounds, there will be an additional 4 round draft where owners may select AAA players.
Alternate WIS Format E (Games: 162 Teams/Playoffs 16/4)
Randomized draft order, serpentine
Max cap
Interleague Play: True
DH: Yes both leagues
AAA: Each team can draft up to 4 AAA players. Only drafted RL players can be used/traded
Players must play only positions at which they are rated for that season.
Alignment: Determined by the commissioner based on ballpark selection, with a preference for traditional league/divisional alignment
Future draft orders based on W-L record with a requirement of at least 40 wins. Teams that do not meet the win floor will draft in the last spot of round one. In subsequent rounds, they will draft in their proper slot (presumably #1).
Other Rules
- No limitation on keepers year to year.
- Once drafted players can be traded to any team without restrictions.
- Traded picks are allowed to be dealt in the current draft + 2 seasons ahead. For example, if we're in the 1982 draft, only picks up to the 1984 draft will be allowed.
- In order to help recruiting of new owners to the league, if an open team does not have a First Round Pick in the upcoming draft due to a trade from a previous owner the new owner will receive a Comp Draft Pick at the end of the First Round in the Draft.
- Team names must begin with traditional city or state affiliation
- No relocation for at least 10 seasons. You may move to a new ballpark when your real life franchise counterpart does, however you may choose to remain in your older ballpark. New owners can choose to relocate in their first season.
- Tiebreakers will be resolved by head to head record (better h2h gets the higher pick), second tiebreakers is record vs. division
