Today, I wasted way too much time debating with a buddy what it would take for the Eagles to land Joe Burrow. We eventually settled on AJ Brown, Cooper DeJean, and nine—yes, nine—3rd-round picks.

It immediately took me back to my youth.

Late one night in early 1992, a young TrentonJoe was huddled over a glowing AM radio, listening to WFAN 660. I witnessed what was arguably the greatest sports talk moment in the history of drunk ramblings.

"Steve," the caller slurred, "the Mets stink. They all stink. We should trade the entire team to the Padres for Roberto Alomar and Fred McGriff."

The legendary Steve Somers, in his infinite wisdom, gently suggested San Diego might pass.

The caller didn't blink: "Fine! Throw in the AAA team, too!"

Even at 15, I knew that guy was three sheets to the wind, but I’ve spent decades wondering: What if he had a point? I’m looking for 8 to 12 owners to help me find out.

The Concept: "The Blockbuster Sacrifice"

We are going to simulate the ultimate "fire sale." You pick one powerhouse team, but someone gets their two best superstars, they'll trade away an entire other roster to get your two best players.

The Core Rules:

  1. The Pair: Each owner is responsible for two rosters (a "Core" team and a "Rookie" team).

  2. The Draft: Once you sign up with your chosen team, we will randomly assign trading partners.

  3. The Trade: You will trade an entire MLB team of your choice from the same season to another owner in exchange for two players of your choosing.

    • Example: I take the 1927 Yankees. My partner trades me the entire 1927 Red Sox roster (they were awful) in exchange for Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

  4. The Result: * Team A (The Powerhouse): I play with the remaining '27 Yankees plus whichever '27 Red Sox players I want to keep to fill the gaps.

    • Team B (The Stars & Scrubs): My partner plays with Ruth, Gehrig, and any 1927 Rookies from the remaining 14 teams not involved in the trade.

League Structure:

  • Alignment: Core teams in one league; Rookie/Superstar teams in the other.

  • Size: Aiming for 16 teams (4-4-4-4) with no interleague play—unless the demand is high!

  • The "Boring" Stuff: No DH, No AAA, No Waiver Wire, and No Trading once the season starts.

Who’s in? Leave a comment with your preferred year/team if you want to see if a drunk caller from 1992 was actually a front-office genius.
