If you sign multiple type A free agents, you keep giving up picks after the 16th pick of the current years draft? Does the highest rated players old team get the highest picks or goes off when signed ?

I believe it's based on team record. So the team with the worst record gets the best comp priority

That makes sense Brian. I guess i didn't word my question correctly. I'm asking: Let say you brian sign 3 type A free agents. Which picks will you lose if say you are drafting 14. Will you lose your next 3 picks after that 14th pick since it is before the 16th? Which wouldn't be a bad deal if you get an A free agent and for one of the picks you only give up pick 100 or whatever.

I did that once. Signed four Type As, my first draft pick was in the fifth round. Yeah you kind of punt on your draft, but as you said, it wasn't a bad deal.

A few seasons back I let 2 type A free agents walk away. The compensation picks I ended up with were 2 supplemental round, 3rd round and 4th round. 3rd/4th round picks are nothing more than minor league fill in this game. Really sucked to get almost nothing back in return. Occasionally you get lucky with a late 1st round pick. It just depends on which teams sign type A FAs.

I don't think there is a "priority" as mentioned above, where team with worse record gets better comp picks. It's simple timing. You sign your first Type A, that original owner gets your top available pick. When you sign the second, that owner gets your second available, and so on. There isn't a re-shuffling of picks based on how many you sign...straightforward timing.

It 100% reshuffles based upon priority when a team signs multiple type A players. I put a ticket in about 5 years ago about this very thing. I acquired a late first rounder initially in free agency and was thrilled. By the end, it eventually bumped to a third rounder.

Am I able to access old tickets somehow? I'd love to share what I was told at the time if I could find it.

Yes, this question was asked some time ago in these forums and it ended up that the final order of picks isn't set until the day the draft is finalized. (Until that point there may still be compensation available for some unsigned free agents.) So there is definitely a reshuffle.

Just for further illustration, I just had the draft day announcement happen in my world. My Type B comp pick which was previously listed as #50 is now #63. (Type A comps move into line before the Type Bs.)
