Ermocito, you’ve got a solid start to a roster with the 50 Giants. Jansen is a horse for a rotation ace, and Maglie is serviceable in there too. Spencer is expensive for 27 innings but great. And Hearn is tough to fit at this cap but hard not to use either. All told those guys will cost $21m and cover less than half your innings. Still, a good group.
On offense you have 6 hitters in a good salary range as full-time players with only Stanky a little pricey at 2b and Irvin short on PA but your best bat. One cheap backup 2b too, but you’ve only got 7 roster spots max.
I decided after much debate that I’ll give you the 1930 Philadelphia Phillies. There are worse teams out there, but I like the fit here best, or lack of it.
Let’s start with the pitching. The team ERA is 6.58 with a .343 OAV. There’s no one here you want to use. But I’ll concede a couple might make good mopups.
They have a $10m Chuck Klein who’s a stud hitter, but I don’t think you can find the salary space. After that there’s one more great hitter in Lefty O’Doul. He’s affordable but can’t field or run, so there’s that. Bad defense is a theme here in fact. Don Hurst is a solid bat at 1b with a D/D- glove. Bernie Friberg can hit nicely at 2b if you don’t use Stanky, but he’s D+/D-. Pinky Whitney is a good fielder at 3b but more expensive and a worse hitter than Hank Thompson who you’ve already got.
The topper is that they have no backup 3b or SS just as your Giants don’t, and they only have two $2m-plus 2b. No dirt cheap hitters at all. Have fun picking out 6 hitters here who won’t kill your defense or be downgrades from your Giants.
