Penny Hardaway

I was thinking when "Penny" came across my radar while prepping, that when he played, he was ALWAYS referred to as "Penny" Hardaway. I NEVER or rarely heard any announcers or ESPN sportscenter guys call him "Anfernee Hardaway". It was Always "Penny". Just like it was always Magic Johnson. Today, 30 years later, we almost ALWAYS call him "Anfernee Hardaway" and not Penny, yet we always refer to "Magic Johnson" and not "Earvin" Johnson. Why is it that one nickname totally stuck and the other didn't?

Very good question. I posted Penny because steelers821 asked me to post Penny, not Anfernee. I usually post Anfernee since it’s in the database like that.

I think I refer to him as Penny because of 2k. When I first came to WIS it took me a bit to find him because I just assumed that’s what he’d be in as.
