100M

Twisting in a Straight Line

Pick any historical team. The base of your roster will be members of that historical team from that specific season. You can also twist as many players as you choose under this restriction: one player can be twisted one season, one can be twisted two seasons, one can be twisted three seasons, etc. You cannot skip numbers. You can twist in either direction. Everyone you don’t twist must use their season with the selected historical team. You may use <300k players either if your historical team doesn’t have enough eligible players or you just prefer them to fill out roster spots.

Any player who appears on the Baseball-Reference page with a game played or inning (or partial) pitched for that team is eligible to be twisted. They do not need to have a sim-eligible season to be used as a twist.

DH: No

Seasons: All

Park: Use your selected team’s home ballpark.

Clones: No

300K exception: Yes

Team name: Include your historical team

Example:
You choose the 1927 Yankees. You can use one twist to 1926 or 1928, then one to 1925 or 1929, then one to 1924 or 1930, etc. So twists could be:

11: 1916 Bob Shawkey

10: 1917 Herb Pennock

9: 1918 Urban Shocker

8: 1919 Dutch Ruether

7: 1920 Joe Dugan

6: 1921 Bob Meusel

5: 1922 Pat Collins

4: 1931 Babe Ruth

3: 1930 Lou Gehrig

2: 1929 Tony Lazzeri

1: 1926 Ray Morehart

Then the other 14 players on your roster would all be members of the 1927 Yankees or 300K exceptions.

Realized just today that the team that I'd put together and hadn't looked at for a month had two "6" year twists, think that is fixed now

When I was finalizing my teams, I diligently checked them against the theme structures and was completely convinced that they were all valid rosters.

Now that the league numbers are coming out and I'm entering them, I've re-checked and am again convinced that they are all compliant.

Each morning I awake and one of the first things I do is open this site hoping against hope that there is no new Sitemail. I figure if there is a problem with my roster that the commissioner will contact me that way.

My point being that if my rosters are not within the parameters at this point then something is wrong in my mind and that's what scares me the most.

I dunno, maybe I'll get a Sitemail that says, "Thanks all your rosters are cleared!" Fingers crossed.

For the $100M theme I created what I believe would be a competitive team that had 15 twists. I didn't end up entering it because I found what I believe to be a better team, but I can't shake the feeling that I should use it just on principle.

That is impressive. I used a 12 twist roster but had a couple of competitive 13 twist rosters I liked.

15 is impressive, I'll be curious to see how high people go. I was at 9, but then reworked the team that I had and got to 10 and felt pretty set

The one I entered uses an 11 twist, but the same roster had one player that as I originally built the team with a different season of theirs had me using a 16 twist, but that one swap eliminated that option. I also almost kept it just because that seemed really cool, but, the team seems better by enough of a margin that I couldn’t really justify keeping the original.

That was a brilliant theme choice for this tournament. So much opportunity to find hidden gems, but also, the smallest tweak can change everything. I had one 14-twist team I really liked, but I was $100Kish over. Every adjustment I made, I either ended up leaving too much salary on the table, or I had to get rid of a version of a player I really wanted. It was maddening.

To paraphrase the great Jimmy Dugan, if it wasn't maddening, everyone would do it. The maddening... is what makes it great.

I've had season tickets to my favorite college basketball team for 20+ years. I swear, some of those game, boy, how I don't have a heart attack I will never know. The atmosphere and competition is so intense. And when the team loses it physically hurts me. I met my wife 16 years ago and she wondered why I put myself through all of this (am I a basket case during tight games? um, well, er, yes) and I said, "You can't celebrate the thrilling triumphs if you don't risk the devastating heartbreak."

While she does get over the defeats quicker than I do today, I am proud to say that she, too, suffers, genuinely suffers, through the challenging moments. I feel I've succeeded in this regard.

I have always said, you don't truly become a fan by your team winning; you truly become a fan by your team losing. If losing doesn't hurt you, you are not a fan. And it's totally OK to not be a fan, but you can't truly say you are one unless you feel abject pain when your team loses.

I agree.
…..And I do not want to talk about last year’s World Series.

I've entered all my teams early because I'll be out of the country 6/13 - 6/25. I've tripled checked everything but any roster verifications I can get ahead of next Friday would be greatly appreciated. For whatever reason, I struggled most with the a to z theme to the point where in the unlikely event I make round 2, the 80m squad could be disastrous.
