Around the Horn is entering its 28th season of existence, and we are looking for some quality owners to help keep us going! We have a mix of solid openings available that are of interest..
About half the league has been in the world for at least 8 seasons, so we have had a pretty stable core ownership group for awhile. We also don't have a super team right now as the last 8 seasons has seen 6 different champions.
We also have a 3-year 180 win MWR and 50-win minimum per season with the first season not counting towards the MWR, so you get a season free and clear to make the franchise your own.
We plan to move to the universal DH in Season 29.
AL East
Scranton (88-74)
A few years removed from winning back to back World Series, Scranton took a step back last season but still has one of the most talented rosters in the league. They are led by their pitching staff which includes one of the best pitchers in the league in Bridget Burkhart, a solid #2 SP in Hank Gorgen, and a solid #3 SP in Jamie Butler. Reliever Jim Buhner is getting up there in age but is still dependable. Their best hitter is likely Teodoro Alicea although Wiki Oliva brings some offense and Einar Lopez is great at setting the table. Unsurprisingly they don't have much of a minor league system as they are built to win now. This is a great franchise for someone who doesn't like to rebuild and just wants to win now.
Cincinnati (78-84)
The Cincinnati franchise is almost like a blank canvas as the previous owner spent the last few seasons clearing out salary and building up the talent of the roster. They have less than $15 million of committed contracts at all levels (for disclosure, they do have 11 players subject to arbitration), while having some pretty good talent on their roster. Their top hitters include young and versatile Austin Mikolas and Antonio Wanatabe, as well as solid hitting 1B Hanley Williams. They also have some good young pitchers in Edwards Busby and Zac Kazmir who are both pre-arb guys. In terms of their minors, they have a couple of solid IFA prospects in Ezdra Parraz and Mateo Plata and last season's 20th overall draft pick in Enos Riggs. This is a great opportunity for someone to come in and either further leverage the IFA market or spend on free agents to help get this franchise over the top.
NL East
Philadelphia (72-90)
Two seasons ago, this was a playoff team. A new owner last season likely hurt their chances, but thankfully this team still has plenty of talent. Moe Washington is a solid #1 pitcher and Steve Bour is a dependable #2. Desi Gabriel is an excellent closer and Randy Jackson is good in small bursts. Offensively, Erubiel Alberto mashes lefties while still being good against righties while Cristobal Pulido and Lefty Ashby are good at getting on base. Their minors has some talent as well, with Ken Moss and Tony Fernandez looking like a promising pitchers. They will have the 7th pick in the upcoming draft, so the next owner has the ability to add a potentially good prospect.
NL West
Helena (86-76)
A playoff team in five of the past six seasons, Helena has been a well run team. Let's talk about their lineup first.
Terrence Bryne is great at getting on base while also being a threat to join the 30-30 club.
Jordan Durham is a 40+ HR guy with a solid OBP who has the ability to play 2B.
Pat Forsch is an excellent defensive CF who has put up good OBP numbers and can steal 50+ bases.
Kyuji Chiba has consistently been their best SP with
Dominic Wise a capable #2 and
Eric Thompson a reliable #3. Whoever takes over this team is getting a playoff contender that they can try and improve short-term through free agency or long-term through prospect development.
Scottsdale (76-86)
A team in the midst of a rebuild, Scottsdale has been adding talent to their minors and their majors to improve. In the majors, they have a ton of speed with four players having over 90 speed. Kiki Infante is excellent at getting on base and having the ability to steal bases while being able to play CF or 2B.
Jose Paredes has had success everywhere he has gone and has great range.
Jenrry Dolis isn't as fast but has excellent baserunning and a great eye, making him an excellent leadoff man.
Mac Sung shouldn't have been in the majors yet, but has the potential to be a star hitter at only 21 years of age. In the minors they have last season's #4 overall pick in
Rafael Olivares who has the potential to be a SS that can actually hit. They also have 1B
James Bradford who is ready to make the jump to the majors. The Season 26 #3 pick
Elijah Epstein is developing nicely thus far and should project to be a #1 or #2 in the majors while
Mike Lincoln can be a solid reliever in short stints. They will also have the #9 pick in the upcoming draft.
Cheyenne (75-87)
Two seasons ago, this team was in Colorado struggling mightily while having a higher payroll than ideal. Last season's owner helped right the ship while being hamstrung by some bad contracts, but this team still has a lot of talent to build around. SP
Shea Raines is only 27, but has solid ratings and finally got to prove himself in a ballpark that wasn't Colorado. It's a similar story for 26 year old SP
Granden Becker.
Charles Crede is only 25 and is an OBP machine.
Joey Germano is only 25 and could play CF or 2B and produce pretty well offensively.
Gene Sheets can be a great offensive catcher or DH next season. They also had the #2 pick two seasons ago in
Randal Welch who looks like a solid offensive 1B and the #1 overall pick last season in P
Christy Morehead. They also have the #8 pick in this season's draft. So there's a lot of upside with this team and the payroll will continue to shrink in the upcoming seasons.
Sitemail me if you're interested in taking over any of these teams!
